The 2007-08 Princeton basketball season came to an end on Tuesday night with a sloppy, listless 60-47 loss to Penn at Jadwin Gym. Princeton finished the season with a program-worst 6-23 record, 3-11 in Ivy League play.

Freshman Jack Eggleston recorded a game-high 15 points for the Quakers, who had three players in double figures.

Center Zach Finley, who missed Princeton's previous two games with an ankle injury, returned to the floor versus Penn, scoring 13 points off the bench. Jason Briggs added 10 along with a career-best eight rebounds and Noah Savage tallied 10 in his final collegiate contest.

Cornell had just completed a perfect 14-0 run through the Ivy League, so what were Princeton co-captains Kyle Koncz and Noah Savage doing in the Big Red locker room?

"We just congratulated them," Koncz explained. "They're a great team and they had a great season, so you have to pay your respects to their team and wish them luck in the tournament."

"As a player, you're frustrated, because a 14-0 season is what you dream of here," Koncz added. "That's what you want to do. You have to be a man and step up and congratulate someone who did it and competed hard every night and did something that's very hard to do. If you don't pay your respect to them and tell them good luck, then I think that's saying something about you."

Princeton played Cornell even for the first 32 minutes of Saturday night's meeting at Jadwin Gym.

Consecutive three point shots by Louis Dale turned a one possession game into a 57-48 Cornell lead as the Big Red pulled away for a 71-64 victory in their final regular season contest before the NCAA tournament.

Louis Dale scored a game-high 21 points in the victory, 17 in the final 20 minutes. Ryan Wittman had 16 points and Jason Hartford added 15 for the Big Red.

Zach Woolridge waited nearly four full seasons on the bench for his name to be called.

His freshman year, he did not make it into a single game. He could have walked away, but he didn't.

His sophomore year, he played one single minute. He could have walked away, but he didn't.

His junior year, he again played only one single minute. He could have walked away, but he didn't.

Woolridge waited for most of his senior year as well, playing eight minutes spread over eight games this season, scoring the only five points of his career in the second half of a long-decided game at Dartmouth two weeks ago.

But earlier this week, Woolridge began to practice with the first team. Woolridge's coach told him that he would be in the starting lineup on Friday against Columbia.

"I think I would be a bad coach if I didn't acknowledge the effort that he's given," confessed Princeton head man Sydney Johnson. "I said I have to find a way to get him out there."

Woolridge caught Columbia off-guard with 15 first half points, playing all 20 minutes before intermission in what would become a 75-64 Princeton victory.

A second half rally by Princeton came up short against Yale, as the Bulldogs held off the visiting Tigers 67-59.

Princeton had sawed a 14 point Yale advantage down to three in the game's final minute on a steal and three point shot by Jason Briggs, but freshman Porter Braswell used a crossover dribble to get in the lane and score with 20 seconds remaining, giving the Bulldogs a 64-59 lead. The basket was Braswell's only field goal of the game.

Two free throws by Eric Flato sealed the Senior Night win.

Travis Pinick battled his way to 15 points and 10 rebounds for Yale. He was one of four Bulldogs in double figures.

Noah Savage tallied 15 on 4-8 shooting from behind the arc and Nick Lake came off the bench to contribute 14 points and grab four offensive rebounds in defeat.

Dartmouth ended a seven game losing streak and extended Princeton's woes to seven consecutive games with a surprisingly easy 71-52 victory on Saturday at Leede Arena.

The Tigers, playing without the services of second-leading scorer and senior co-captain Kyle Koncz, who injured his hip in the second half of Princeton's loss to Harvard the previous evening, could not match the Big Green's energy level.

DeVon Mosley had a game-high 18 points to lead three Dartmouth players in double figures. Classmates Marcus Schroeder and Zach Finley each scored 10 for Princeton.

It happened again.

Harvard scored the final eight points of regulation to force an unexpected overtime and then ran off the first seven points of the extra frame to send a shocked Princeton team packing. The Crimson, who had seen a five point lead slip away in the final 30 seconds last Friday against Cornell, flipped a familiar script on the Tigers one week later with 2:30 to go, rallying for a 74-67 win.

It was the Tigers' 18th consecutive road defeat.

A crestfallen Marcus Schroeder put his head in his hands, then pulled his black jersey over his face, turning away from the court and leaning against press row.

An open three point shot by the Princeton sophomore guard to win the game at the end of overtime had skipped off the rim as Brown completed a ten point comeback that began with less than eight minutes to play.

The Bears survived 65-63 on Saturday night to stay two games behind Cornell in the race for the Ivy League title with six games left on the schedule.

"This was a very gusty win for our team," stated Brown head coach and former Princeton star Craig Robinson after the game. "Good teams can win on the road when they don't play well and that's what happened tonight."

It was the same painful story for the Tigers, who lost their fifth in a row as they again could not close out an opponent.

Princeton continues to look for the elusive 40 minute game.

"We've had some games where we're right in the mix and whether it is execution on the defensive end and the offensive end" said Tiger head coach Sydney Johnson following Princeton's 67-56 loss to Yale. "We just haven't seized the moment."

Trailing by five points with seven minutes to go, Yale went on a 12-0 run and the Bulldogs finished Friday night's game with a 22-6 rally. "I don't think it is lack of desire" Johnson observed, trying to explain how his team had let the lead slip away. "We just have fallen short consistently."

"We have lapses" bemused senior co-captain Kyle Koncz stated after the game. "We're making the same mistakes over and over again. We're losing guys in the zone. We're not talking."

Koncz scored 12 points and added a career-best 11 rebounds for Princeton. Center Zach Finley also had 12 of his own in defeat.

Yale's Nick Holmes paced four Bulldogs in double figures with 18 points. Travis Pinick scored 11 and grabbed 11 boards while Ross Morin and Caleb Holmes each had 10.

Penn 70 Princeton 65.

Five times in the second half of the 217th meeting between Princeton and Penn the Tigers had possession with a shot to take the lead.

Five times the Quakers held on.

The last of these chances came with just nine seconds on the clock and Princeton down 64-63, as an open three point shot by senior co-captain Noah Savage on the left wing was long off the mark.

Following offsetting technical fouls assessed to Zach Finley and Brian Grandieri after the rebound, Remy Cofield made two free throws to boost the Penn advantage to three. As Princeton looked to inbound and pull even for the first time since midway through the first half, Savage was whistled for an intentional technical foul as he elbowed Jack Eggleston beyond midcourt before the ball ever came into play. Savage, now disqualified, headed to the bench with his head down, aware he had cost his team a chance at overtime.

It was one of 52 whistles in a foul-plagued 70-65 struggle between two teams that haven't had much fortune this season.

Kevin Egee's 15 points led four Quakers in double figures. Also breaking out of single digits were Aron Cohen with 14 and the freshman duo of Eggleston and Remy Cofield who both tallied 11.

Zach Finley was one of four Tigers in double figures, scoring 15 points. Kevin Steuerer added 13 while Savage and Lincoln Gunn each contributed 12.

Like the deflections at critical junctures of the second half they could not control, a victory slipped through Princeton's fingers on Saturday night at Columbia.

The Lions rallied for a 58-53 win that sent the Tigers home winless from their weekend in New York State.

Niko Scott led Columbia with 12 points. John Baumann scored 10 in the first half for the Lions, but did not attempt a field goal after intermission.

Lincoln Gunn was the game's high man, tallying 17 on 7-13 shooting. Noah Savage added 12 and Kyle Koncz had 11 in defeat.
