Converting three pointers at an astonishing rate, undefeated Georgetown hosts a difficult Utah State team this afternoon.

Denver looks to double their win total against Cal State Northridge.

Oregon State travels to Colorado for their game in the Pac-10/Big 12 Hardwood Series.

It was a light night for the college basketball schedule on Friday but both Hawks that Princeton will be facing next week were in action: St. Joseph's lost their second straight to a fellow Philadelphia squad, 71-60 at Villanova. Monmouth is playing three games in three days over the weekend at the Basketball Travelers Classic in Moscow, ID. Will Campbell's three point shot with five seconds left gave the visitors from West Long Branch a one point win.

Help find a laptop stolen at the Palestra last night.

Following the Princeton/Penn game at the Palestra, someone took the laptop bag of Soft Prezel Logic writer Jonathan Tannenwald.

The bag (which looks like the image above) was left underneath seat one, row 10, section 215 - the first row of bleacher seating in that section.

It is a black Eagle Creek bag with a light-blue Amtrak luggage tag on one of the handles.

If you saw the bag, saw someone with the bag, or happen to have the bag, please get in touch.

Jonathan in a good guy who does a lot for area hoops and he deserves better than this.

Happy Birthday, Dad.

He's been mistaken for Pete Carril on at least two occasions!

He's been yelled at by the daughter of an official during a game for his criticism of her father!

He's been to every Ivy gym at least four times, probably more!

He's always seeing fouls that aren't there and not seeing fouls that are there!

He's got a snazzy orange vest and a camera around his neck!

He's responsible for taking me to see Craig Robinson and Neil Christel play when I was still in single digits!

He's my dad.

He's 75 today.

Happy birthday, dad.

You're the best.

Around Atlanta III.

The countdown to October began before the streamers even hit the ground.

In Canada, they raise their children right.

Congratulations to my friends Jen and Nathan on the birth of their son Reid.

Perhaps Reid can be to the 2006-2007 Princeton basketball season what June Clay Styles was to the 2005 Pittsburgh Steelers. Time will tell.

Honored.

This past Saturday night I was named an honorary classmate of Princeton's class of 1976 at their reunions dinner for my work with Princeton basketball and 103.3 fm WPRB.

Thank you to Rosalie Norair (r), Bob Ruxin and the rest of the class of '76 for the work they put in to make this happen. I remain humbled and slightly overwhelmed by this recognition, but greatly appreciative. I shall wear my new class shirt with pride.

Now, if only someone could explain to me what a "locomotive" is...

To quote Buzz Aldrin...

Second comes right after first!

The Lawrenceville Heat finished my first season of youth basketball coaching with an 8-2 record, winning our last two games 17-6 and 27-11. In the first of these games the opposition didn't score until there were three minutes left in the third quarter. In the second game we finished the morning on an 18-2 run. Couldn't be prouder of my guys.

Everyone got a trophy. I think I was more excited than any of the kids.

Why is D'Andre playing peek-a-boo? Anyone?

Field Trip! - Dia: Beacon.

To continue my failed attempts at combining weekends of wall-to-wall basketball with actual culture, we stopped at Dia: Beacon on the way back to Brooklyn. It was fantastic, even if they wouldn't let me take pictures in the giant gallery spaces.

Field Trip! - The Gates.

On the heels of four basketball games in three days, next up on the agenda was Central Park on a snowy Monday afternoon to celebrate my Dad's birthday. Just what this site needs: More orange.

Heat
(L to R) Coach Mullen, Bryan, Brad, Brandon, D'Andre, David, Daniel, Alex, Joey, Tim*, Portrait of the Author as a Coach.

This year, when I haven't been at Jadwin, in the shower or sleeping, I have been coaching 11 and 12 year olds in rec. league basketball. It is my first time coaching on any level, save for trying to tell people in pickup games back in Chicago that they need to cut when they're standing still. On this past Saturday afternoon my team (the appropriately orange-clad Heat) defeated the previously unbeaten Cavs 27-24. There's no feeling like nine kids of various sizes finally buying into every little thing you've been talking about in practice each week, if only for thirty-two minutes with a running clock.

Seeing and hearing the kids on the other team start to fight with each other as we stuck with our stuff and confused them on defense for the entire game was easily my greatest personal sports highlight (since winning the obstacle course in third grade).

We're 7-2 on the season with one game to play.

*Who told me when I was handed this picture "I look like a zombie." His Dad is the only Heat parent to wear a Misfits sweatshirt on gameday, which is sort of awesome.
