A well-defended driving layup by Randal Holt rolled in with three seconds left as Kent State ended the Fairfield (19-16) season 73-71 in the opening round of the CIT.

Denver faces Maryland in the second round of the NIT tonight.

Despite another Kareem Maddox double-double, Newcastle fell to Leicester Riders.

The first-ever postseason victory for Denver (22-9) sure was exciting. Ohio's Reggie Kelly missed a potentially-tying jump hook in the lane with seven seconds left and with the Bobcats looking to foul senior Chase Hallem chucked a long outlet to Jalen Love who immediately offered a touch pass back to Royce O'Neale for the game-clinching dunk with one tick remaining. The Pioneers advance to play at Maryland tomorrow night in the NIT's second round.

Richmond plays at Bryant in the CBI and Fairfield visits Kent State for a first round CIT contest tonight.

John Thompson III says Georgetown plans on "being around for a while" in the NCAA Tournament.

Craig Robinson is banking on a turnaround at Oregon State.

This means Ohio at Denver in the NIT is the only contest on the docket.

Princeton recruit Spencer Weisz performed well at the New Jersey Scholastic Coaches Association All Star Game. The South topped the North, 103-99.

Over at TigerBlog, Jerry Price shares some personal anecdotes about Bill Carmody.

Northwestern let Jaren Sina out of his LOI, so he is free to pursue other schools. Sina will still keep the Wildcats in mind (depending on who their new head coach is).

Hey Gabe Lewullis, how do you feel about being named one of the Top 25 Most Obscure March Madness Heroes Ever?

Georgetown received a #2 seed in the South Region and will play in Philadelphia on Friday.

In the interest of transparency, the NCAA released their full seed list for this year's bracket. Interesting to see the s-curve is no longer in use and also to learn what teams were bumped up/down one line to make the matchups work.

Three other "Carril Cradle" teams will participate in the postseason as Denver got a very favorable seed and a NIT home game against Ohio, Richmond plays at Bryant in the CBI's first round and Fairfield visits Kent State for the CIT.

Scoring 11 points off the bench, Dan Mavraides helped Juve Caserta surprise Montepaschi Siena. There's video highlights here.

The CIT has invited Fairfield to participate and the Stags have accepted this bid.

Fairfield (19-15) led Manhattan 16-5 over 11 minutes into the first half of yesterday's MAAC semifinal but could not hold that lead until halftime and were outscored 37-20 by the Jaspers in the back stanza of a 60-42 loss.

Michigan State and valiant Northwestern (13-18) were even with 5:44 left in East Lansing before a 10-0 Spartans run did the Wildcats in.

It was a wonderful Saturday for all other branches of the Carril coaching tree. Georgetown (24-5) took the regular season Big East title with a rivalry-concluding 61-39 triumph over Syracuse. Hoya Prospectus looks at the numbers.

By coming out ahead 64-58 at Colorado, Oregon State (14-17) gets to play the Buffaloes again on Wednesday in the first round of the Pac-12 Tournament.

Richmond (18-13) decimated Duquesne in the home regular season finale for the Spiders, 79-55.

You know Denver (21-8) has won 17 of 18 since New Year's Eve, right? The Pioneers routed Louisiana Tech at home 78-54, giving Joe Scott's team a share of the WAC regular season title. There are some great photos of the game here.

It hasn't been pretty but it doesn't need to be. Fairfield (19-14) advanced to the MAAC semifinals with a 43-42 win over second seed Rider.

The regular season ends for Northwestern at Michigan State.

Around the Ivy League: Harvard (18-9 / 10-3) took the conference title with a 65-56 decision over Cornell (13-18 / 5-9). Yale (14-17 / 8-6) earned third place in the Ancient Eight, topping Penn (9-21 / 6-7) by 14. The Dartmouth (9-19 / 5-9) campaign concluded with a 64-58 victory over last place Columbia (12-16 / 4-10).
