The first-ever postseason victory for Denver (22-9) sure was exciting. Ohio's Reggie Kelly missed a potentially-tying jump hook in the lane with seven seconds left and with the Bobcats looking to foul senior Chase Hallem chucked a long outlet to Jalen Love who immediately offered a touch pass back to Royce O'Neale for the game-clinching dunk with one tick remaining. The Pioneers advance to play at Maryland tomorrow night in the NIT's second round.

Richmond plays at Bryant in the CBI and Fairfield visits Kent State for a first round CIT contest tonight.

Prepare a fire extinguisher...

...BECAUSE DAN MAVRAIDES IS ON FIRE!

(I knew Mavraides had a good stat line versus Siena, but I wasn't aware just how much he contributed in the fourth quarter to rally Juvecaserta until now.)

Fairfield and Kent State had their CIT game pushed back from tonight to tomorrow due to weather.

This means Ohio at Denver in the NIT is the only contest on the docket.

Princeton recruit Spencer Weisz performed well at the New Jersey Scholastic Coaches Association All Star Game. The South topped the North, 103-99.

Over at TigerBlog, Jerry Price shares some personal anecdotes about Bill Carmody.

Northwestern let Jaren Sina out of his LOI, so he is free to pursue other schools. Sina will still keep the Wildcats in mind (depending on who their new head coach is).

Hey Gabe Lewullis, how do you feel about being named one of the Top 25 Most Obscure March Madness Heroes Ever?

Georgetown received a #2 seed in the South Region and will play in Philadelphia on Friday.

In the interest of transparency, the NCAA released their full seed list for this year's bracket. Interesting to see the s-curve is no longer in use and also to learn what teams were bumped up/down one line to make the matchups work.

Three other "Carril Cradle" teams will participate in the postseason as Denver got a very favorable seed and a NIT home game against Ohio, Richmond plays at Bryant in the CBI's first round and Fairfield visits Kent State for the CIT.

Scoring 11 points off the bench, Dan Mavraides helped Juve Caserta surprise Montepaschi Siena. There's video highlights here.

Selection Sunday News:

Fairfield will head to a gym Princeton already visited in December for their first round CIT matchup.

What sort of fallout could Northwestern face from Bill Carmody's departure?

One columnist is already calling for an AD to pursue Carmody for an open coaching position in the midwest.

An Internet Prime Directive is DON'T READ THE COMMENTS but these words from a Wildcats season ticket holder hold food for thought.

Newcastle lost their fourth straight home game, but you have to see this wild shot from Kareem Maddox.

A pair of Princeton games made a countdown of the 75 greatest games in NCAA Tournament history.

Back tonight with some brackets!

Bill Carmody out at Northwestern.

After 13 seasons with an 192-210 record since leaving Princeton, Bill Carmody and Northwestern parted ways today.

Under Carmody the Wildcats made it to the NIT four consecutive times but were unable to ever reach the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history.

In recent years Carmody's teams repeatedly came up one tantalizing game, injury, play, bad break or basket short of their ultimate goal.

Athletic Director Jim Phillips will discuss this coaching change further at a 6:30 pm ET press conference, which you can stream live here.

Saturday News:

Georgetown fell to Syracuse in overtime at the Big East Tournament.

Princeton recruit Steven Cook was named Illinois Class 4A Honorable Mention All-State.

Did Kareem Maddox being named BBL Player of the Month for a second time possibly get lost in the shuffle?

If Bill Carmody is fired at Northwestern, it is unlikely he'd have to wait long for a new job. A list of theoretical replacements includes just about everyone you know.

Syracuse 58 Georgetown 55 (OT).

Box Score : HD Box Score

Syracuse/Georgetown III wasn't pretty. In fact at times it approached the antithesis of beautiful, but it certainly was memorable.

The Hoyas came from down 12 in the second half to reach overtime on a pair of Otto Porter free throws but never once regained a lead they lost midway through the opening frame.

Trailing by three with :14.4 left, Georgetown (25-6) was unable to get a tying shot off. John Thompson III drew up a play that would run Porter off a screen but Porter became trapped on the far wing as Syracuse (25-8) chewed up on the arc defensively and threw an off-kilter pass away to the Orange's C.J. Fair.

"[The Orange] played it well," Thompson III acknowledged.

Fair missed a pair of potentially game-sealing free throws with three ticks on the clock but Jabril Trawick's running 35' shot at the buzzer was off target.

Syracuse had survived to attain their final Big East title game despite 1-6 shooting from the line in overtime. The Hoyas' offense stagnated with 3:36 to go in overtime as their point guard Markel Starks fouled out via a bump on a drive.

Postgame audio from Coach John Thompson III, Otto Porter and Markel Starks plus the rest of this recap can be found after the jump.

No postseason for Princeton.

Brendan Connolly, Mack Darrow and Ian Hummer have played their final games wearing orange and black.

I had begun to suspect as such when I noticed multiple Princeton players saying via social networking that they were going home for Spring Break but it was still somewhat surprising to receive confirmation earlier today that the Tigers' season is officially over and they will not be participating in a postseason tournament.

This ends a run of three straight seasons with a game in either the NCAA or CBI for the Tigers.

Princeton concludes 2012-13 with a 17-11 record, 10-4 in the Ivy League.
