Monday News:

Fairfield vs. Marist - 7:00 pm ET

Pete Carril is profiled in the Trenton Times.

The Daily Princetonian, the Columbia Spectator and the Cornell Daily Sun review last weekend's action.

There's also a photo essay dedicated to Ian Hummer's dunk in the Princeton student paper.

Fairfield makes up their postponed trip to Marist tonight.

Another Jeremy Lin article looking at how he has made the Ivy League proud talked with Sydney Johnson.

SportsProf took a spur of the moment to visit Jadwin Gym on Saturday night.

It seems that the coaching career of Fletcher Arritt will end with games versus the Princeton J.V.

The Carril article is very interesting, especially the part about his relationship with Gary Walters versus Brian Earl. The generational shift in how we communicate with young people as coaches, teachers, etc., is exemplified there--Earl as an 18-year-old was just barely able to tolerate Carril's blunt, public pressure to improve, and things have moved further in that direction since his playing days. AFA recently fired their coach for making basketball insufficiently fun, for example, something one wouldn't have expected at a service academy.

I think there are plenty of young coaches who are very demanding, but their style of interaction is completely different. (For example, Brad Stevens at Butler seems to get tremendous discipline and consistency from his players while playing it pretty cool, at least in public.) The younger members of the Carril coaching tree seem also to have met this challenge successfully. I wonder whether their own former players will be similarly successful should they also enter the profession.
