Saturday News:

Chris Young pitches for the Padres against San Francisco this afternoon in what should be his final Cactus League start before the team heads back to San Diego. Young is 0-2 with a 6.57 era through five spring training games.

Former Princeton recruit Jeff Peterson, who reneged on his Early Decision commitment to the Tigers and then signed with Iowa in April 2007 after reopening his recruitment three months earlier, has announced he will transfer.

Peterson was Iowa's third leading scorer as a sophomore, averaging 10.6 ppg.

It will be interesting to see where Peterson lands, as two of his original finalists had coaching changes during his recruitment (St. Louis, Xavier) and Princeton does not accept transfers.

Didn't Sean Jackson "transfer" to Princeton? His first year as a Tiger was as a sophomore. I seem to recall that he had been accepted to Princeton as a senior coming out of high school but had initially stayed in Ohio. Not holding out hope for Jeff Peterson, but perhaps that loophole is still open.

Jon,

Sean could answer that question better than I could (and I will try and get him to comment), but I believe his first year on the Tigers he was a sophomore in basketball terms but a freshman in university terms. Jackson started anew at Princeton and was in school for four years, staying after his senior basketball season for his senior academic season. I highly doubt that Peterson would follow a similar route.

Some additional on-line research indicates Peterson's next stop *could* be Missouri State, which is in his home town.
