Saturday News:

Saturday, March 24th:
Mercer vs. Fairfield - 7:00 pm ET - CIT

A real quiet Saturday, save for Fairfield hosting Mercer in the CIT semifinals.

Oregon State has room for optimism.

This story about the increase of ball screens in college basketball talks with Bill Carmody and is a nice companion article to conversations I've had with Princeton coach Mitch Henderson about the same subject during the season.

Interesting article on the ball-screen trend in college hoops. I have an additional speculation about why this has happened lately: More teams have nasty, long, athletic perimeter defenders, and under the college rules (which allow the defender more leeway than in the NBA), it's hard for all but the most potent scorers and point guards to turn the corner and drive.

For example, I can't remember if it was last year or the year before (and I'm too lazy to look it up), but Kansas State played Butler in the NCAAs and their star point guard was completely unable to get a shot off or penetrate without the help of a ball screen. The problem was that Butler was also pretty awesome at help-and-recover (or trapping) on those screens.
