Padres manager Bud Black took Chris Young out of Saturday night's game versus Arizona after 96 pitches and six excellent innings. Young did not allow a hit until Tony Clark's home run snuck inside the right field foul pole in the fifth. Young has given up just four home runs this season, three of which were by Clark. Young headed to the showers with a 4-1 lead, which the Padres bullpen immediately gave back in the bottom of the seventh when reliever Heath Bell cracked for three runs in less than an inning of work. The Diamondbacks took a 5-4 lead in the eighth and San Diego could not rally. The Padres slipped into second place behind Los Angeles with the loss.
Will Venable was 2-4 with his third regular-season home run of the year, his 13th stolen base and two runs scored, but the Missions were doubled up by Midland 16-8.
On Friday night in the Princeton Summer League, Chris Petrie scored eight points to lead Coldwell Banker, who was defeated by Tee 2 Green 66-36.
