Tuesday News:

There are articles about yesterday's surprising resignation in the Trenton Times, in the Trentonian, in the Star Ledger, in the Daily Princetonian and on New Jersey Newsroom. All lack the same thing, which I have also been working for - quotes from Sydney Johnson.

To their credit, the Princetonian did talk to Dan Mavraides, Kareem Maddox and Mack Darrow.

Jerry Carino was the first to seriously suggest Johnson would leave for Fairfield and he now shares three reasons why this change transpired.

SportsProf already has a list of possible replacements.

Both pain-free and excited to start his season, Chris Young makes his Mets debut tonight at 7:05 pm ET in Philadelphia.

MetsBlog has audio of an interview they conducted with Young.

Disappointing news, for sure, but I think Carino was dead-on about the three reasons for Johnson leaving: money, concerns he couldn't out-recruit Harvard and a bright short-term outlook at Fairfield. Success in the MAAC recently has been a bridge to the Big 6 - Cooley (Fairfield) to Providence, McCafferey (Siena) to Iowa and Willard (Iona) to Seton Hall in past two years alone.
Can't say I blame Johnson for leaving.

Some bright news on this dark day: Chris Young becomes the first Mets pitcher to get 2 base hits in an inning. Young is 3-for-3 as the Mets lead 6-0 as of this writing.
