John Thompson III in action (among other plays).

There's plenty of video evidence of John Thompson III coaching basketball, but hardly any out there of Thompson playing basketball.

A pair of recent uploads to YouTube show JTIII scoring and getting fouled, part of a quartet of layups I'm posting today. Above's clip is from Princeton's 62-49 win over Lafayette in January of 1986.

Also on the floor: Alan Williams (#24), Joe Scott (#4) and Bob Scrabis (#34).

Three more clips after the jump. I believe they're all from the same game.

Thompson again. Mike Harnum (#30) and Aaron Belz (#43) join Williams and Scott on the floor during the first half, which was the Tigers' starting five.

Williams (12-15 shooting) scored a career high 27 on the night.

Aaron Belz down the left baseline to the rim.

Dave Orlandini (#21) to Williams for two in traffic.

Did JTIII's FT go in on that first clip? It's such a tease.

Seriously, it's fun to see the old spread, the false motion at the beginning of the set, and some pinpoint passing to cutters whom other teams might deem as "covered." Maybe the team could use a bit more of that this year to free up the inside game.

According to the box score on Princeton's web site, Thompson was 0-2 from the line against Lafayette.
