PRINCETON — The Blair School boys’ basketball team reinserted its starting five with 36.5 seconds left.
That was the extent of Hun’s 63-32 handling of Blair (10-4), the team that beat the Raiders in last year’s Mid-Atlantic League Prep final.
Blair couldn’t take another half-minute with its reserves in the game.
The last Hun (11-4) starters toed to the bench with 4:04 to go in regulation, leading 56-27. Senior guard Fergus Duke led with a game-high 16 points off four 3-pointers, while senior forward Hashim Moore (committed to Princeton) held Blair’s Marial Shayok to 12 points.
Then came Taylor Heilman, Isaiah West and Jason Applegate — who had seven points off an 18-footer, a step-back jumper and an and-one drive — junior varsity players stealing the show late on the stage Hun’s starters set with a 24-4 run through the first 11 minutes of play.
Each time, the crowd exploded.
Then, finally, Blair re-inserted its starters.
“It wasn’t a big difference,” said Heilman of Blair’s starters.
“My eyes opened up, I wanted No. 3,” said Applegate of Shayok.
“Coach always tells us to be ready,” said West.
