    EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern staged a spirited second-half rally, but it was not enough as the Wildcats fell to No. 2 Indiana Sunday at Welsh-Ryan Arena, 67-59.

    The Wildcats (11-8, 2-4 Big Ten) trailed the visiting Hoosiers by 14 points at the half, but things tightened up after the break. NU shot 50 percent (13-26) in the second stanza after sinking only seven field goals in the game's opening 20 minutes.

    Northwestern trimmed the deficit to five points on a pair of occasions in the second half thanks to big buckets by Jared Swopshire. The graduate student knocked down a big three-pointer with 2:31 to play and knifed through traffic for a lay-up with just over two minutes to play to make it 58-53. However, that was as close as the 'Cats would come down the stretch.

    Reggie Hearn poured in a game-high 22 points for the Wildcats, while Swopshire added 13 points and a team-high eight rebounds.

    Cody Zeller registered his 10th career double-double with 21 points and 13 rebounds for Indiana.

    Unlike Thursday's win at Illinois, Northwestern struggled from the field to start the game. Nonetheless, the Wildcats were within striking distance at 17-9 with just under 11 minutes remaining in the first half following Alex Olah's layup.

    Indiana Game Highlights

    The Hoosiers rattled off nine straight points, though, as the visitors' lead grew to 26-9 with 4:33 to go. A layup by Tre Demps followed by a 3-pointer by Swopshire cut the deficit to 12 before Indiana eventually took a 31-17 advantage at the break.

    Indiana's lead was comfortable at 45-29 with 11 minutes left when the Wildcats made their move. A triple by Dave Sobolewski and a steal and slam by Swopshire got NU within 11. The teams traded two free throws before Swopshire nailed a trey and Olah scored on a layup. Hearn made one of two from the charity stripe with 6:48 to go, capping a 13-2 Northwestern run that got the hosts within 47-42.

    Indiana would push its lead back up to 11, but the Wildcats made one final surge. Hearn hit three from the line with 3:24 left and then Swopshire came up with a steal on one end and hit a 3-pointer on the other, making it 58-53 with 2:31 remaining.

    Zeller made a pair of free throws before Swopshire scored on a layup to keep the deficit at five with two minutes left, but Jordan Hulls hit a jumper and Sobolewski couldn't connect on a 3-point try on the other end and Indiana made nine of its 10 free throw attempts down the stretch to hold on for the win.

    Northwestern returns to action Wednesday when it hosts Minnesota at Welsh-Ryan Arena. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
