Bill Bradley '65, former U.S. Senator from New Jersey, will open his national tour for his new book, "We Can All Do Better" with a public lecture on Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at 4:30 p.m. in McCosh Hall, Room 50, on the Princeton University campus. The address, sponsored by the Woodrow Wilson School, is free and open to the public. A book sale and signing will immediately follow the talk.

In the book, “We Can All Do Better,” Bradley offers his take on the current gridlock in Washington and its effect on the nation’s policies.  He argues that government in and of itself is not the problem, but rather the role that money plays in politics is.  Bradley worries out loud that if we continue down the same path our country will face a diminished future.  The book doesn’t end there, however, but offers a precise prespan style=visibility:hiddenion of what needs to be done to reverse course.

Bradley writes that his inspiration for the book was a passage in President Lincoln's second State of the Union address: “We can succeed only by concert. It is not ‘Can any of us imagine better?' but 'Can we all do better?'”

Bradley represented New Jersey in the U.S. Senate from 1979-1997.   In 2000, he was a candidate for the Democratic nomination for president of the United States. He holds an A.B. degree in American History from Princeton University and an M.A. degree from Oxford University where he was a Rhodes Scholar. He has authored six books – all New York Times bestsellers – on American politics, culture and economy. A basketball star while at Princeton University, Senator Bradley was an Olympic gold medalist in 1964 and a professional basketball player with the New York Knicks from 1967 to 1977 – during which time they won two NBA championships. In 1982 he was elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame and in 2008 Bradley was inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame.
Currently, Senator Bradley is a Managing Director of Allen & Company LLC, a member of the board of directors of Starbucks Company, and the host of “American Voices,” a weekly show on Sirius/XM Satellite Radio that highlights the remarkable accomplishments of Americans both famous and unknown.
