Beavers To Face Alabama In Semifinals Of 2K Sports Classic

CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State men's basketball team will play Alabama in the semifinals of the 2K Sports Classic benefiting Wounded Warrior Project at 7 p.m. ET (4 p.m. PT) on Thursday, Nov. 15 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Villanova and Purdue will face each other in the other semifinal game and the winners of the two games will play in the championship game and the losers will play in the consolation game the following night. The semifinal and championship games will be televised on ESPN2 and the consolation game will be televised on ESPNU.
This will be the second-ever meeting between the Beavers and Crimson Tide as Alabama won the first game, 59-49, on Dec. 22, 1998 at the Pearl Harbor Classic in Laie, Hawai'i. Deaundra Tanner led Oregon State with 16 points, seven rebounds and six assists, while Iyan Walker added 12 points and six rebounds. MC Mazique had 15 points and 12 rebounds to lead the way for Alabama.
The remainder of Oregon State's 2012-13 men's basketball schedule will be announced at a later date, including the complete bracket for the 2K Sports Classic benefiting Wounded Warrior Project regional rounds.

The format for the 2012 2K Sports Classic benefiting Wounded Warrior Project, the nation's premier season-opening college basketball tournament, features 12 teams from across the nation competing in the 18th annual event with Oregon State, Villanova, Purdue and Alabama hosting regional round games from Nov. 9-11. The four hosts will then advance to the Championship Rounds, Nov. 15-16, at New York's Madison Square Garden, while the remainder of the field will participate in sub-regionals held at campus sites.
Beginning with this year's event, Wounded Warrior Project is the beneficiary of the event. The mission of Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) is to honor and empower wounded warriors. WWP's purpose is to raise awareness and to enlist the public's aid for the needs of injured service members, to help injured servicemen and women aid and assist each other, and to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet their needs. WWP is a national, nonpartisan organization headquartered in Jacksonville, Fla.
