PRINCETON, N.J. -- Ivy League men’s basketball looks to rebound from a tough week that saw teams combine for only four wins in 19 games with an active slate of 16 games throughout the Thanksgiving week.
Penn closes out play in the Dick’s Sporting Goods NIT Season Tip-Off, as does Cornell in the Continental Tire Las Vegas Invitational. Columbia heads west for the San Francisco Hilltop Classic after taking on Villanova to start the week. Brown, Dartmouth and Yale play their first home games of the season this week while Harvard and Princeton go on the road for big early-season tests.
This week, the League has four games slated for national broadcast, highlighted by the Ivies' second of 13 games on the NBC Sports Network with Harvard at Saint Joseph's on Tuesday, Nov. 20.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Penn junior forward Fran Dougherty (New Britain, Pa.) put up a career week in all three of the Quakers’ games, averaging 24.3 points and 8.7 rebounds. Dougherty’s 31-point effort against Fairfield was the most scored by a Penn player since Ibrahim Jaaber had 32 against Seton Hall early in the 2006-07 season. He posted his first two collegiate double-doubles with 10 rebounds to go along with his 31 points vs. Fairfield and 21 points and 10 boards vs. Drexel. Dougherty went 27-of-43 from the field for the week, hit the first four three-pointers of his career, and after going 1-of-5 at the foul line in the first half vs. Delaware, connected on 14-of-16 the rest of the week.
