Throwback Thursday: 1979-80 color photos.

Losing power for three days (happy to report both light and hot water have returned as of this evening), I only just now realized it was Thursday. What better time to share an amazing batch of 18 color photos from the 1979 and 1980 that David Zeft recently unearthed?

Zeft shot these images - which were previously a stack of slides - from the sidelines and stands at Jadwin Gym while attending games with his family.

I have ID'd players to the best of my ability but any further details in the comments would be greatly appreciated.

That's John Rogers (#32) shooting from the top of the key above with Randy Melville (#21) boxing out and Bob Roma (#40) on the wing. You can click on any image to enlarge.

The Princeton band.

Randy Melville dunking.

Gary Knapp (#4) at the top of the Tiger defense.

The Princeton cheerleaders.

I believe that's Dave Blatt with the jumper.

Melville drives. Is that the late Paul Friedman Mike Sigl underneath.

Inside the mouth of the Tiger.

Rich Simkus (#40) shoots as Craig Robinson (#45) calls for the ball.

A scoop from Steve Mills.

Bob Roma Rich Simkus.

Craig Robinson inside.

Cute kid.

John Rogers.

Possibly Blatt and Sigl inside. Certainly Mills (#3) outside.

Rich Simkus fires.

What were the results of the contests pictured?

Princeton held off Yale 68-59 in the final game of the 1978-79 season. Rogers, Blatt, Neil Christel and Tom Young each hit double figures.

The Tigers topped Brown 62-45 at home a year later, shooting 23-35 from the floor as a team. Meville scored 11, Simkus 13 and Mills 16 as the Tigers responded from a 22-19 halftime deficit.

The player was not Paul Friedman but Mike Sigl who wore # 33

Thanks, David. I compared headshots of both before posting and thought the player in question looked more like Friedman than Sigl.

Also # 40 you have Bob Roma as the shooter. It is Rich Simkus
The game with Roma and John Rogers was against Brown during the 78/79 season , Princeton winning 61-50. The Yale game was the 1st home Ivy League encounter of the 79/80 season with Princeton winning. 61-57.

Thanks, David. Will make those changes.

I checked the final scores against a media guide as well as each of the Daily Princetonians from the following Monday. Both confirm the scores I listed.
