Plus/Minus numbers through 10 games.

The Princeton athletic department was prescient enough to read my mind and send plus/minus numbers on each of the Tigers through Saturday's game at Drexel.

This chart shows the number of minutes played across the first 10 games this season and the difference in points scored by Princeton while each player was on the floor versus points allowed by the Tigers during the same span.

I've also broken down +/- per 40 minutes for all players who have seen at least 100 minutes of action and added Net/40 numbers ("Roland Rate") with inspiration from Hoya Prospectus.

Player Minutes +/-
Bray 296:39 +35
Hummer 323:32 +24
Darrow 236:40 +22
Davis 326:28 +18
Koon 114:09 +12
Saunders 187:59 +3
Wilson 5:47 +0
Edwards 2:00 -2
Garbade 2:54 -2
Comfort 57:55 -4
Clement 3:15 -8
Hazel 79:50 -10
Connolly 154:58 -13
Barrett 142:47 -18
Sherburne 40:17 -21

Princeton has scored 597 points to date, allowing 589 points.

As for individual single game highs and lows, Ian Hummer was +26 versus West Alabama. Jimmy Sherburne was -19 in the season opener against Wagner.

The most successful lineup combination? Also the group who has played the most together:

T.J. Bray, Douglas Davis, Ian Hummer, Mack Darrow and Patrick Saunders, who were +27 in 57:12 of play.

The least successful five? The third-most used lineup and the initial 2011-12 starting lineup:

Bray, Davis, Will Barrett, Hummer and Brendan Connolly, combining to go -12 in 30:51.

The Tigers have used 102 different lineup combinations.

Plus/minus divided by 40 minutes for the regular eight player rotation:

Bray +4.72
Koon +4.20
Darrow +3.72
Hummer +2.97
Davis +2.21
Saunders +0.64
Connolly -3.36
Barrett -5.04

Net/40 (“Roland Rate”) numbers:

Bray +15.2
Hummer +11.3
Davis +7.6
Darrow +7.1
Koon +4.8
Saunders -0.3
Connolly -6.8
Barrett -9.1

If you want to compare these numbers with a season ago at the same juncture, you can do so here.

Thanks for the numbers. This, to me, is more evidence that it can be tough to change ones mindset and play under a new coach's system; our players are clearly adjusting to it and Mitch is working to find the combinations that give us the best success.

It is very encouraging to see Bray at the top of this list; it seems that his assist/TO ratio is starting to trend upward. Koon seems to provide another wrinkle to Henderson's offense as well....perhaps it might be time for us to see him starting as a freshman? (As the immortal D.W.M. points out, Doug Davis started his freshman year)

I'm happy about Darrow's numbers; we need him and I enjoy the way he plays. It seems like Hazel hasn't gotten much of a chance this year. We'll probably need him to make a contribution at some point (I'm visualizing a situation where we have foul trouble or need to get some tough defensive stops without accumulating too many fouls on our other forwards.)

Wow, Barrett's numbers are awful. His shooting percentage is the worst on the team by far. And now the poor kid is going to miss two months. I hope he can recoup during the 2nd half of the Ivy season.

I don't think anyone who has followed the team this year is surprised by these numbers. Our best lineup is clearly Davis, Bray, Saunders, Hummer and Darrow with Koon as a solid "6th man"(a 6th man who can play literally every position except point guard) . Not that I'm happy for it, but maybe Barrett's injury will translate to more playing time for Koon.

I'm concerned about depth, but didn't we beat Georgetown in the NIT with all 5 staters playing 40 minutes? We could do that again against Harvard right?

Also, thanks for the shout-out Adam
