He's senior center Bobby Garbade (rhymes with car-raid), and yesterday he informed the Princeton coaching staff during an on-campus visit that he wanted to be part of the Tigers' next recruiting class. Pending admission, Garbade (pictured on the right above) joins Denton Koon and Clay Wilson, who each verbally committed to Princeton earlier this year.
Tonight I spoke at length with Garbade's high school coach Chris Sinicki, who has coached the future Tiger for the past three seasons at Seton Catholic Central High School in Binghampton, NY. It was a classy display by Princeton head coach Sydney Johnson to have his entire team and coaching staff show up to today's memorial for Marvin Bressler en masse.
Seeing the current Tigers occupying the back two rows of the filled-beyond-capacity auditorium, two things struck me:
1. The similarity in the experiences of those who were assisted by Marvin when they made his acquaintance during his first days at Princeton in the early 1960s to those who graduated in the past few years.
2. A sadness that the current freshmen on the team sitting in Robertson Hall will not have the fortune to get to know Marvin and that they did not share the privilege of his company.
Three inch buttons with Marvin's visage on them or select "Bresslerisms" were handed out at the door.
Top-flight senior center Desmond Hubert has trimmed his suitors from seven schools to five. Ohio State and Virginia are off his list, but Princeton made the cut.

2009-10 Ivy Rookie of the Year Kyle Casey broke a bone in his right foot over the weekend and will miss the next 6-8 weeks. He is expected to return to Harvard's lineup before Ivy play begins.
Mason Rocca (left) scored nine points and grabbed five rebounds off the bench for Armani Jeans Milano, but the host team could not hold off the New York Knicks in yesterday's high scoring exhibition. Rocca was a game-best +15 for his squad in 20 minutes of play. Penn product Ibby Jaaber scored 16 points, swiped seven steals and committed nine turnovers. I have the game on my DVR and hopefully I can watch to write up a few notes shortly.
When Will Venable (video) struck out against Brian Wilson in the top of the ninth yesterday, San Diego's improbable final weekend push to make the NL playoffs came up one win short. Venable played in 131 games in 2010, batting .245 with 13 home runs, 29 stolen bases and 129 strikeouts. After making an adjustment to his back elbow in his swing and raising his average as high as .253, Venable went hitless in his final 12 at-bats.
Chris Young only was able to make four starts for the Padres this season. One in the second game of the year and three down the stretch. Young was 2-0 for the Friars with a 0.90 ERA in 20 innings. It is unlikely San Diego will pick up Young's option year.

This position was recently held by Martin Bahar, who departed the Hoyas to become Princeton's Director of Basketball Operations in August of last year.
