Throwback Thursday: late 60s & early 70s media guides.

"Throwback Thursday" is back for a third straight week and this time out we've scanned covers and select pages from inside four late 1960s and early 1970s Princeton media guides.

Four decades ago these guides were not the glossy, full color, 200+ behemoths they eventually developed into. Heck, they weren't even called "media guides." The oldest of these documents is little more than a small, possibly photocopied pamphlet.

That said, each has a certain understated, simplistic beauty - though they've got nothing on the mid-1970s Princeton media guides I won on eBay last year which are nearly works of art.

(Don't worry, you'll see'm soon enough.)

Wednesday News:

Georgetown's John Thompson III delivered an encouraging message at Monday's Coaches 4 Character program.

The Daily Princetonian recaps the Tigers' trip to Spain, with quotes from Chris Clement.

In his most recent outing Chris Young (4-8) threw 6.2 innings of solid baseball, but included in his eight hits surrendered were three solo home runs as New York lost 3-0 at Milwaukee. Young, who is looking to stay healthy, received a significant financial bonus for exceeding 100 innings pitched on the season.

A center from Kentucky has selected William & Mary over apparent finalists Bucknell, Princeton and Rice.

Denver will show up on the ESPN family of networks at least three times in 2012-13.

A home game with Air Force has been added to the Richmond schedule.

2012-13 site subscriptions available!

Since it already rolled off the front page due to the past week's recruiting profiles, vintage posts and daily news updates, I'm reposting that I've made 2012-13 site subscriptions available.

Current subscribers still don't need to panic about renewing until 9/30/12, but if you want to sign up for another season of coverage early, I'm not going to stop you!

Thank you so much to those who have already renewed your subscriptions.

If you choose to sign up for the 2012-13 campaign you will get site access from now until October 2013 free at no additional charge. That's 12+ months of princetonbasketball.com for the price of a traditional calendar year.

Finally, I've again created unique coupon codes for any and all students (high school, college, graduate school, etc) that are interested in joining the princetonbasketball.com family. If you email me I can provide you with a code that automatically generates a discount of 50% off our $30 annual membership fee.

There will be a proper, full fundraising appeal in late September explaining who we are, what we do and why your support is needed (you can read the 2011 appeal by clicking here) but I wanted to give those eager to get a jump on next season the opportunity to stay within the fold immediately and those who have missed out on a summer of copious unique content the chance to get caught up before the season is upon us.

Warmly,

Jon Solomon
princetonbasketball.com

Ps. If you want to direct interested parties who can't access specific posts on the site to this deal, I've cross-posted the same information at a public URL here. Thanks again!

Friday News:

The Daily Princetonian returns with articles on Dave Blatt and Doug Davis.

Craig Robinson has signed a one year extension at Oregon State.

A game that the just-retired Jim Calhoun coached at Princeton back in 1979 is referenced in a piece by Alexander Wolff.

Throwback Thursday: 1980s programs.

Last week's first ever "Throwback Thursday" focusing on a collection of Bill Bradley-related artifacts has inspired me to give it another go today. If anything it means that some items I've been long-overdue to file will finally get put away out of sight!

This time out we're looking at assorted early 1980s programs. A cross-section of covers, interesting photos and player profiles can be all found after the jump.

Click on any image to enlarge, and feel free to share memories from any of these games in the comments.

New Recruit - Spencer Weisz.

Last week 6'4"+ 190 lb guard/forward Spencer Weisz from Florham Park, who attends Seton Hall Prep in West Orange, NJ verbally committed to Princeton.

I've subsequently been able to talk on the phone to Pirates head coach Kevin Williams and assistant Gregory Walsh about Weisz, where I learned about how a former Princeton reserve aided the current Tiger staff in Weisz' initial discovery and what Ivy League Player of the Year from another school he may compare to down the line.

Exclusive quotes and analysis from two men who have developed this Tiger recruit the past three seasons plus links to player evaluations, photos and videos of Weisz can be found after the jump.

All pictures enclosed were taken by Richard Morris.

Tuesday News:

Princeton is back on campus, and as you can see from the above video, very thankful to those who made their Spain trip possible.

Georgetown expects to be quite good this season.

Northwestern's John Shurna signed a one year deal with the Knicks.

A guard from New Jersey has selected Oregon State.

Will Venable drove in three for San Diego in yesterday's victory over St. Louis. The Padres have won 14 of their last 18 games.

The landscape of both the 2012-13 and 2013-14 Ivy League men's basketball seasons have potentially changed significantly with the news that Harvard co-captain and top returning scorer Kyle Casey will withdraw from school for a year after being embroiled in an academic cheating scandal. Fellow co-captain Brandyn Curry has also been implicated but has yet to make a decision on his future.

Chris Young still hasn't won a game at Citi Field this season, but he pitched well versus Atlanta yesterday. However the Braves yet again trumped Young's Mets, this time in 10 innings.

Congratulations Mitch Henderson, you're the 152nd most-followed Division I head coach on Twitter.

The ESPN profile for Princeton recruit Steven Cook has been updated.

Stats from Spain.

While Mitch Henderson's team doesn't fly back to New Jersey until Sunday, the basketball portion of Princeton's trip to Spain is complete, with the Tigers going 1-3 in their exhibition slate.

I've combined the four box scores to create some composite statistics, which I present after the jump with the preface that having not seen these games, witnessed the level of competition or reviewed any play-by-play I can't properly comment about *how* these points were scored or the degree to which anyone actually performed beyond the available data.

That said, enjoy numeros de partidos en Espana.
