Tuesday News:

Will Venable returned from his oblique injury and promptly smacked three hits versus Milwaukee, including his fifth home run of the season to lead off the game.

It was pointed out to me that in the process Venable passed his father Max for most career hits in his family.

Chris Mooney shared stories of Coach Carril at the Richmond head man's recent lecture on leadership.

While it has some errors, this Princeton recruiting page also acts as a class-by-class depth chart. Worth bookmarking.

Not on this list is a two sport standout who currently has no plans to keep playing basketball as a Tiger.

Coming off the "craziest 12 hours or 14 hours of my life," Chris Young takes to the mound for the Mets, this time in Tampa versus the Rays.

Judson Wallace scored a team-high 13 points for FC Barcelona in the third game of the ACB finals. Wallace's team trails Real Madrid 2-1.

His contract is up at the end of this season and apparently Virtus Bologna has interest in signing Mason Rocca. Siena is on the verge of sweeping Rocca's current team, EA7 Emporio Armani Milano, in the Lega A championship.

A panel of ESPN writers/personalities went conference by conference ranking the best and worst jobs in each. An interesting exercise.

One day after making his first major league start in 13 months, Chris Young went on the team's "paternity list." Young's wife gave birth to the couple's third child on Wednesday morning.

A forward who plays on the Main Line apparently holds offers from Princeton and Fairfield.

Princeton bestowed an honorary Doctor of Humanities degree to Pete Carril during yesterday's Commencement.

Far less momentous, but there's a brief, funny Carril anecdote in this piece on how social media has limited what contemporary coaches say and do.

It was an encouraging return to the major leagues for Chris Young. Making his first start in 13 months, Young allowed two earned runs on six hits in five innings for the Mets (75 pitches, 52 strikes), a small part of an odd 12 inning loss at Washington.

Will Venable is likely going to avoid the disabled list but remains out with a strained right oblique. Venable has been reunited with fellow Princetonian Ross Ohlendorf in San Diego.

20 x 10 + 1?

I had been meaning to answer the following self-posited question for a while now:

"Like 2011-12, how many other Princeton seasons across the past 50 years have included 20+ overall wins, 10+ conference victories as well as a postseason triumph?"

Often two of these benchmarks are checked but getting all three has proven difficult.

I'm well aware that the college basketball landscape has changed to where there are more overall games and more postseason opportunities but accomplishing a "20 x 10 + 1" still feels significant to me.

Monday News:

Princeton center Brendan Connolly talks about running the school's 15th Reunion.

The plan was originally for Chris Young to make two more starts for AAA Buffalo before returning to the major leagues, however Johan Santana requires extra rest following his no-hitter so Young will pitch for the Mets tomorrow night in Washington.

Racing out of the box on a ground ball, Will Venable strained his right oblique and had to leave yesterday's Padres game early.

Judson Wallace had nine points (including the game-sealing free throws) and nine rebounds as FC Barcelona advanced to the ACB finals versus Real Madrid. The best of five series begins on Wednesday.

Richmond coach Chris Mooney is speaking on Friday in the City of Pride and Purpose.



Saturday News:

The Daily Princetonian caught up with Kareem Maddox at Reunions about his season in Europe.

A brief blurb on Princeton recruit Steven Cook popped up recently.

My condolences to Zach Woolridge and family on the passing of his father, former NBA veteran Orlando Woolridge.

Tuesday News:

You may be seeing new variations of the above image rather soon. Building off a successful six+ inning start for St. Lucie, Chris Young has been transferred to AAA Buffalo and will pitch for them Thursday morning.

Incoming Princeton freshman Michael Washington, Jr. and his Oak Harbor High School DECA team won their second straight national title.

Kevin "Moon" Mullin will speak at the Courier-Post/Kiwanis Scholar-Athlete Awards Banquet on June 13th.

Thursday News:

Less than two years after he was hired, Princeton Director of Basketball Operations Kendrick Saunders is leaving the program to accept an assistant coach position at Navy. I'm sorry to see him go but I wish him the best of luck with this hands-on opportunity. The job description for the now-open DOBO position can be found here.

The Princeton Varsity Club will honor Stu Orefice with the Marvin Bressler Award at their annual banquet.

Batting well over .400 for his career versus St. Louis coming into last night, Will Venable was a triple short of San Diego's first cycle against the Cardinals.

Bill Bradley talks about his new book as well as his days with the Knicks.

Craig Robinson is taking Oregon State to Spain and France this August.

There was a report yesterday that Brown was hiring Penn assistant and former Bears standout Mike Martin as their next head coach but a different report paints the situation as more up in the air.
