Princeton to visit Florida State.

The 2011-12 Tiger schedule has to be close to completion. Today it was announced Princeton will visit Florida State on December 30th, 2011. Last season the Seminoles advanced to the Sweet 16.

It will be the first meeting between the two schools since the 1998 Rainbow Classic, a 50-46 Tiger triumph.

Five more games for the schedule.

Like they did last season, Princeton will participate in a convoluted Gazelle Group preseason tournament. The Tigers are one of 12 teams in the 2011 TicketCity Legends Classic.

Princeton shall play three games in a subregional pool at Bucknell right after Thanksgiving - versus the host Bison on Friday, November 25th, Morehead State on the afternoon of the 26th and Division II West Alabama on the afternoon of the 27th.

The other subregional pool is hosted by Rhode Island and includes Hofstra, Cleveland State and Boston University.

By process of elimination, one can deduce that of the four Legends Classic preliminary round host schools - Texas, Oregon State, Vanderbilt and NC State - Princeton is almost certain to play at the Wolfpack barring unexpected reconfigurations. UT and Vandy have already released their schedules and Oregon State is not expected to be welcoming Princeton to Corvallis.

Update: NC State has announced their schedule and as expected they'll host Princeton on November 16th.

Regardless of how these host schools perform in their Legends Classic home games, they all advance to the tournament semifinals at the Meadowlands' Izod Center.

In addition to this news, the Tigers will travel to Northeastern on December 18th, somewhere they have not played previously. Last season Princeton beat the Huskies on a neutral court on the first night of the UCF Holiday Classic, 65-63.

Monday News:

Continuing to thrive after his demotion, Padres outfielder Will Venable led off yesterday's game with a home run (video) and ended the action with a walk off ninth inning single (video) as San Diego swept Florida, 4-3.

John Thompson III says last week's brawl is behind his team. After a day in Shanghai, the Hoyas easily defeated Liaoning, 91-69.

In Italy it was Fairfield with the 101-70 win over Forli. The Stags' Rakim Sanders had 35 points on 14-15 shooting, nearly equalled on the other side by former Georgetown standout Austin Freeman's 34.

2011-12 site subscriptions now available!

Due to unexpected demand, I'm making 2011-12 site subscriptions available now.

Current subscribers don't need to stress about renewing until 9/30/11, but if you want to sign up for another season of coverage early, I'm certainly not going to stop you!

Those who choose to sign up for the 2011-12 campaign get site access from now until October free at no additional charge. That's 13+ months of princetonbasketball.com for the price of a traditional calendar year. Sweet.

Finally, I've set up unique coupon codes for any and all students (high school, college, graduate school, etc) that are interested in joining the princetonbasketball.com family. If you email me I can provide you with a code that automatically generates a discount of 50% off our $30 annual membership fee.

As happens every September there will be a proper, full fundraising appeal explaining who we are, what we do and why your support is needed (you can read the 2010 appeal by clicking here) coming next month but I wanted to give those eager to get a jump on next season the opportunity to stay within the fold immediately and those who have missed out on a summer of copious unique content the chance to get caught up before the season is upon us.

Warmly,

Jon Solomon

Saturday News:

A report of the talk Mitch Henderson gave at the Princeton Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Pete Carril spoke to the Trenton Times about receiving the Lapchick Character Award.

Princeton has announced jersey numbers for the four freshmen joining the Tiger roster. All returning players will keep the digits they wore last season.

Kyle Koncz interview.

When I previously interviewed Kyle Koncz last November, he was starting his third season of coaching and teaching at Lake Forest Academy outside of Chicago.

Koncz is now taking the next step, going from a prep school powerhouse to an assistant coach position at one of the top programs in Division III basketball, as he recently joined the staff at Williams College.

This morning I caught Koncz on the phone in transition from Illinois to the Berkshires. A transcript of our phone call can be found after the jump.

Additionally, because the site has been interview-heavy recently, I've added an Interviews category above you can use to peruse these many exclusive conversations.

Friday News:

There was a frightening melee in the fourth quarter of yesterday's exhibition between Georgetown and the Bayi Rockets. The Washington Post had a reporter on the scene describing what transpired.

John Thompson III released a statement after the game and today two Hoyas met in Shanghai with members of the team they came to blows with.

You can watch clearer resolution videos of this ugly incident from a pair of angles here and here.

Georgetown's first exhibition on their trip to China was played in front of Vice President Joe Biden.

Fairfield won the opening game of their Italian tour 89-45 over Roma Selezione.

The Stags also announced their 2011-12 non-conference schedule.

Upon signing with Aris B.C., Dan Mavraides shared a quote through his new team.

A center I had been tracking for a while because of some level of interest in Princeton during the recruiting process will attend Cal Poly.

An interview with Dan Mavraides.

On the heels of former teammates Kareem Maddox and Pawel Buczak signing professional contracts overseas, last weekend Dan Mavraides inked a three year deal with Greek squad Aris Basketball Club.

Currently back home in California, I had a chance to talk with Mavraides tonight about this opportunity, what he's been working on since graduation and his new role playing guard on one of the top teams in Greece. A transcript of our conversation appears after the jump.

Princeton will play at Drexel.

One more for the schedule: Princeton plays at Drexel on December 10, 2011.

This will be the Tigers' first meeting with the Dragons since the 2005-06 season opener, which was part of the preseason NIT.

The only other time Princeton has played at Drexel was in 1929.

Pete Carril to receive Lapchick Award.

Pete Carril is one of three recipients for this year's Lapchick Character Award.

He will be honored, along with former Mount St. Mary's coach Jim Phelan and former Virginia coach Debbie Ryan, at a luncheon on November 17th held at Madison Square Garden.

Wednesday News:

Will Venable is the San Diego YPC's Young Professional of the Month.

As most were getting up on the east coast, Georgetown was playing their first exhibition in China, a 98-81 Hoyas victory over the Shanxi Brave Dragons. Vice President Joe Biden attended the game and spoke to the team in the locker room beforehand.

Not much to take away from Mitch Henderson's appearance on ESPNU, but my ears perked up a touch when he said some of the incoming Princeton freshmen will be "special for us."

John Thompson III and Sydney Johnson are both scheduled to be on with Andy Katz today at 5:00 pm ET.

I like what Fairfield is doing with the release of their 2011-12 non-conference schedule today. Each game will be revealed on the team's Twitter every 10 minutes starting at 1:00 pm ET with an exclusive discussion of the schedule following on the school's Facebook page.
