Monday News:

The Scott Greenman-coached USA Juniors Team remained undefeated at the Maccabiah Games with a 81-28 victory over Argentina. If the United States can defeat Azerbaijan today, they will advance to tomorrow's gold medal game. Greenman is interviewed about his return to Israel in today's Atlantic City Press.

A thorough interview with Georgetown product DaJuan Summers was on DC Sports Bog a few days ago. Summers speaks about his time as a Hoya and debunks a few myths about his experiences.

Oregon State head coach Craig Robinson has chosen an author for his book, "A Game of Character."

Friday News:

The dates for Princeton's two games against Penn have been announced. The Tigers will travel to the Palestra on Tuesday, February 16th and host the Quakers at Jadwin Gym on Tuesday, March 9th. See the full 2009-10 Princeton basketball schedule here.

Chris Young is unlikely to return to the Padres until after the All-Star break.

Will Venable was scratched from the starting lineup on Friday due to a wrist injury suffered in the batting cage prior to San Diego's game at Texas.

Will Venable avoided being sent down to AAA when Padre outfielder Scott Hairston came off the disabled list on Tuesday. Venable started in right field for San Diego last night, going 1-4 and striking out to end the game with the tying run on first base.

Bishop-elect John Barres, a former Princeton point guard, is profiled by the Allentown Morning Call.

One more all star game for incoming freshman Jimmy Sherburne. He'll suit up for the Division 2 South team at the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Classic in Madison on Sunday.



Friday News:

The prognosis was worse than expected and Chris Young was placed on the 15 day disabled list today retroactive to last Monday.

Northwestern's John Shurna made the United States' 12 man roster for July's FIBA U19 World Championships.

Former Princeton player Terrence Rozier-Byrd is playing in the Jersey Shore Basketball League this summer.

Oregon State will play at Nebraska on December 12th.

The prep school Northfield Mount Hermon's Twitter feed mentions that two of their basketball players made a visit to Princeton on Sunday.

Denver senior guard Nate Rohnert will captain the Pioneers in 2009-10.

Bill Tienrey says that Joe Scott helped solidify his decision to take the men's lacrosse job at Denver.



Wednesday News:

Jim Lane has signed his first recruit at Union County College - Alex Jones from New Jersey state champions St. Patrick's. Here's the press release from Lane and UCC:

Alex Jones is the first high school recruit to commit to joining the Owls for the 2009-2010, and should immediately contribute to the Owls goal of becoming competitive for the league title.  Alex comes to UCC from the heralded St. Patrick High School of Elizabeth, New Jersey program, a perrenial national Top 10 program.  Alex was a member of multiple state championship teams and a leading contributor to St. Patrick's number 1 ranking in New Jersey in the 2008-2009 campaign as they won the NJSIAA Tournament of Champions. "Alex raises the bar for future recruits to our men's program and was our immediate top recruit upon seeing him play; I realized immediately that this young man would have averaged a double-double at almost any other high school in the state, and is ready to play at the college level immediately." said Coach Lane.  Alex will play at the shooting guard and small forward positions for the Owls in the 2009-2010 season and will be vital in handling the basketball against the pressure defenses in Region XIX.

More bad news for the injury-addled Padres. Chris Young will miss his next start with shoulder soreness and is likely headed to the Disabled List.

A 6'9" center from the Chicago suburbs says he has "scholarship offers from Cornell and Princeton."

Speaking of Cornell, Dick "Hoops" Weiss of the New York Daily News reports that Big Red coach Steve Donahue and former Harvard head man Frank Sullivan are two of the names he's hearing mentioned in the search for the next Holy Cross coach, with Donahue leading the list.

A wild Chris Young walked four straight batters during the shortest start of his career and was lifted in the bottom of the third inning as San Diego lost 6-0 to the Angels. Will Venable got the start in left field and went 1-3 with a double, raising his average to .158.

Mark your calendars! Princeton's game at George Washington will take place on November 24th, the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. Oregon State comes to DC a few days later on the 28th.

The USC job is open after Tim Floyd's sudden resignation and Craig Robinson is called a "good fit" for the position by Oregonian columnist John Canzano.

The Denver Post writes about Joe Scott's salary in comparison to what new Pioneers men's lacrosse coach Bill Tierney may be earning.

A LA-area guard who played well at this past weekend's 2009 Rumble in the Bronx says he has interest from Princeton.

On the eve of his 30th birthday, San Diego pitcher Chris Young led the Padres to their ninth straight victory, retiring the first 14 batters he faced and driving in two runs with a single in the fifth inning.

Will Venable hit his seventh home run of the season in Portland's 11 inning loss to Nashville. Padres GM Kevin Towers says it is likely Venable will be promoted again this season.

Bologna and Treviso are headed to a fifth game in their first round Lega A playoff series. Judson Wallace had seven points and five rebounds in defeat for Benneton.

Students from the Newark University Heights Charter School visited the Princeton coaching staff on campus last week.

An Indiana center who recently committed to Butler said Princeton had also been in the mix for his services.
