C. Young (1-1) - 2.0 IP 7 H 5 ER 5 BB 2 K 4.30 ERA. 84 pitches, 47 strikes.

"I was terrible," Young said, flatly. "I never found my rhythm, never found my groove. Sometimes you can figure it out and find it. I couldn't make the adjustment. I dug us in too deep."

The Trenton Times grasps for new details trying to get information on the Princeton coaching search. While I'm not at liberty to share what I know, lets just say that some of the people they mentioned have already interviewed for the job, but there are a number of people that they haven't unconvered yet who have been seen around Jadwin in the last couple of days. Sorry for the tease.

Wednesday News:

Around the newswire today...

As part of the Ivy League's 50th anniversary celebration, this week's feature checks in with former Princeton standout Gabe Lewullis.

The win turned out to be bittersweet, as Carril announced his retirement in the locker room.

"It was kind of chaotic," remembers Lewullis. "We get back to the locker room and everyone is high on life. Carril comes in, doesn't say a word, just goes to the chalkboard and writes down: 'I'm retiring.' It was dead silent. We didn't know what to do so we just started clapping for him."

The San Diego Padres have rewarded Chris Young with a new contract.

On Tuesday, less than a day after Young tossed seven scoreless innings in a victory over San Francisco and less than a month since Towers and Babby met, the 27-year-old had agreed to a four-year contract worth $14.5 million, including a includes a $500,000 signing bonus and a $8.5 million club option for 2011.

He'll receive $750,000 this season, $2.5 million in 2008, $4.5 million in 2009 and $6.25 million in 2010. The deal covers his arbitration-eligible years as well as his first year of free agency.

In recruiting news, there's a tiny update on the Jeff Peterson saga and news that Bobby Foley will be playing on the North squad in this Saturday's North/South All-Star game.

[Peterson] wants to meet with coach Lickliter before making his decision, but Iowas definitely still in the picture, Jones said. He likes the Iowa campus, players and the AD. He likes Saint Louis because hes from, Springfield (Mo.), and hes got the academic thing going for him at Princeton, so he cant go wrong whichever school he chooses.

The Richmond Times Dispatch is reporting that 6'4" Mills Goodwin guard Bobby Foley will be attending Princeton to play basketball. The son of coaches Bob Foley and Louise Foley is an expert three point shooter who was named 2007 Colonial District Player of the Year.

There are now four publicly announced members of the 2007 Princeton recruiting class: Foley, Dan Mavraides, Kareem Maddox and Jason Liberman.

New Recruit - Dan Mavraides.

The San Mateo County Times is reporting and princetonbasketball.com can confirm that former Serra guard Dan Mavraides (above, far left) will be attending Princeton to play basketball. Mavraides participated in the 2006 state Division I semifinals in Sacramento against a De La Salle team with current Princeton Tigers Marcus Schroeder and Lincoln Gunn in the starting lineup.

The 6'3" 195 lb Mavraides was named Honorable Mention All-Metro by the San Francisco Chronicle in 2006. He is currently taking a post-graduate year at Phillips Exeter Academy.

Exeter coach Jay Tilton had the following to say about the newest member of Princeton's recruiting class - "Dan Mavraides is one of the most complete players I have encountered in my fifteen years of coaching. His skill level, nose for scoring and toughness made him a marked opponent in the highly competitive Class A New England. Dan is a college-ready player and we are all excited about his future at Princeton."

New Recruit - Kareem Maddox.

Sources confirm to princetonbasketball.com that 6'6" forward/center Kareem Maddox has been admitted to Princeton early decision and will be coming from California to play for the Tigers.

The Oak Park senior is averaging 23.3 points, 12.3 rebounds and 4.8 blocks a game.

Says Eagles head coach Ed Chevalier - "He's like a sleeping giant that just woke up...he's motivated. He's responding to the challenge in front of him."

Maddox is also the editor of his school newspaper, The Talon.

New Recruit - Jason Liberman.

On the heels of yesterday's news about Jeff Peterson comes word early this morning from longislandbasketball.com that a 6'5" senior guard/forward from Roslyn, NY named Jason Liberman has "made a verbal commitment" to Princeton.

Liberman was the leading scorer for Nassau County in the Long Island All-Star Game.

Says Pro Hoops, Inc...

"Jason Liberman AKA 'Baby Wally' is one of the best shooters in NY. He has added some size and a confident handle to his arsenall (sic). Jason took his game to another level this summer. We are expecting his name to blow up after some big performances during his High School season."

Newsday also called Liberman "versatile" in passing.

That's about all we've got.

New Recruit - Jeff Peterson.

Scout.com is reporting that 5'11" senior Dematha Catholic point guard Jeff Peterson (left) has given a "verbal" to Princeton University. This has subsequently been confirmed by Dematha coach Mike Jones in a Recruiting Insider post by Washington Post columnist Josh Barr.

Peterson is the first publicly known member of Princeton's 2007 recruiting class.

Here is Barr's Washington Post article about Peterson from March 2006 and a decent feature from I-95 Ballerz about the Missouri native.
