A big win for Benetton Treviso over Lottomatica Virtus Roma, 92-85. Judson Wallace tallied 12, one of five Benetton players in double figures. Former Penn standout Ibby Jaaber went for 32 points and eight steals in defeat.

Practices officially get underway for Division I schools around the country today.

Northwestern and Denver will open their doors to reporters tonight while Princeton will hold a pep rally for students this evening. The most public kickoff is at Georgetown, where a portion of their "March Madness" festivities will be covered by ESPNU - but as Hoyas coach John Thompson III tells the Washington Times, he won't be dancing this year.

Georgetown has released its 2009-10 men's basketball schedule.

The John Thompson III Foundation hosts its Third Annual Foundation Weekend on September 18th and 19th.

Two recaps of the talk Bill Bradley and Ken Dryden participated in called Lives on the Run: Sports, Service and Leadership - one in the Cornell Daily Sun and the other in the Ithaca Journal.

A local guard who had Princeton on his short list of suitors has opted to play at Drexel.



Wednesday News:

Will Venable hit his 10th home run of the season (video), a solo shot to center in the top of the seventh inning, as San Diego came back to beat San Francisco, 4-3.

Lafayette announced their 2009-10 basketball schedule. In addition to a game at Princeton, the Leopards will visit Georgetown on November 28th.

Richmond has released the dates for their Atlantic 10 slate, completing their schedule for the upcoming season.

Denver head coach Joe Scott has signed a three year contract extension that will keep him with the Pioneers through the 2014-15 season.

Another addition to the highlight reel for Will Venable, who followed up an outfield assist (video) on Monday with a diving grab (video) last night.

The charity auction that John Thompson III and his wife were involved in raised over $39,000 for the Sullivan Center for Breast Health.

One name to add and one name to remove from your recruiting radar - A 6'7" North Carolina forward says Princeton is one of the schools that have made him an offer, while a 6'9" post player from Arizona who had previously listed the Tigers among his suitors verbally committed to Weber State.

Finally, there was a post on TigerBlog on Monday called "Jon Solomon, Media Member?" that I'd be curious to hear your opinions on. While, as I said in that site's comments, I'm not sure how comfortable I am with my name being the focal point for this discussion - I think both this post and the Washington Post article I shared here that inspired it raise some interesting, important issues. I had only hoped that by this point I would have earned a period in the subject line, not a question mark.

Georgetown coach John Thompson III and his wife Monica will speak at a charity auction supporting breast cancer awareness following the Washington Mystics' game on Sunday.

Former Hoya Jessie Sapp has signed a contract to play overseas for the Scottish Rocks.

The last two articles today have no direct connection to the programs this site covers, but are interesting discussion points:

St. John's has hired someone well-versed in social networking to use Twitter and provide "enhanced coverage" from courtside during Red Storm games this season. If this is done right, with use of TwitPics, Retweets about the team from varied sources and two way Q&As, it will be a great way to connect with this program.

The Washington Post has an article about the blurring line between fan and reporter as more and more individuals start up school-specific recruiting web sites.
