Venable's Friday was less embarrassing than his Wednesday, when Padres rookies had to wear Hooters Girls uniforms on the team flight to the east coast as part of a hazing ritual. Will Venable hit his first major league home run, a 420 foot blast to deep center field, as San Diego won 5-2 at Milwaukee. Watch video of Venable's drive here. The 6'3" 225 lb Venable is hitting .348 after six professional starts.
Georgetown now knows dates and opponents for its 2008-09 Big East schedule.

Will Venable became just the second player in San Diego Padres history and the first in 39 years to hit a triple in his first career at-bat.
Starting in center field and batting sixth in the lineup, Venable was 1-4 at the plate in his major league debut, the first Princeton alum to make the pros as a position player since John Easton in 1959.
The Marin Independent Journal tracked down Venable at the Portland airport on his way to San Diego. Venable also spoke to mlb.com before yesterday's action.

C. Young (4-4) - 5.0 IP 2 H 0 ER 2 BB 8 K 4.12 ERA. 88 pitches, 53 strikes.
Chris Young struck out six of the first seven batters he faced in his return to the Padres rotation, but his performance was overshadowed by Diamondbacks starter Doug Davis' flirtation with a perfect game. Young left with the scoreboard blank and Arizona went on to win 3-0.
Before the game, Young spoke to the North County Times about the 'perks' of being hit in the face with a line drive.
The Princeton Packet interviewed Judson Wallace after the NBA Summer League had wrapped up.

Two box scores from the NBA Summer League to pass along - on Friday, Judson Wallace scored six points and grabbed six rebounds in Phoenix's 85-80 loss to the Knicks.
The Suns defeated San Antonio 98-74 on Thursday, and Wallace had four points and five boards in 16 minutes of play.
The fourth of five Summer Suns games will be played tonight against Portland at 10:00 pm ET. It will be broadcast on NBAtv.
Chris Young was encouraged after his first rehab start, throwing 59 pitches over 3 2/3 innings for Single-A Lake Elsnore on Wednesday.

Will Venable continues to tear it up in Portland, blasting a game-winning three run home run in last night's 4-2 extra inning victory over Fresno. Venable, who has hit safely in 12 straight games, now leads the Beavers in batting average, hitting .322 with 20 doubles through 73 games.

Last night was the NBA draft, and two Georgetown seniors were selected - Roy Hibbert with the 17th pick and Patrick Ewing Jr. (above) in the second round to Sacramento.
