Chris Young shut down the Mariners well into the seventh inning and two bursts of offensive support helped the Padres to an 8-1 win in both teams' interleague opener.
Will Venable was 0-5 at the plate with an outfield assist as San Antonio was dropped by Frisco 6-3 in 13 innings.
Alex Wolff has stepped down as General Manager of the ABA Champion Vermont Frost Heaves. Wolff will continue on as team president.
"Me being the general manager was a consolidation of powers, and that was the way it was going to get off the ground," Wolff said. "I want to give the team a chance to flourish under a general manager who really understands small market sports."

Chris Young and the San Diego Padres kick off interleague play at Seattle tonight. 10:05 pm ET first pitch versus the Mariners.
The San Antonio Missions went 2-2 over their last four games. On Monday Will Venable picked up his first triple of the season, going 1-4 with two runs scored in a 8-0 victory over Corpus Christi. Tuesday saw Venable go 1-4 with a double in a 4-3 loss against the Hooks. The next day Venable was again 1-4 with a double, but this time San Antonio came away with a 4-1 win. Finally, last night Venable's eight game hitting streak came to an end in a 6-5 loss that started a series with Frisco.
The Mad Friars web site had the following to say about Venable earlier this week:
Will Venable went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI, extending his hitting streak to six games after scuffling through a 2-for-32 stretch. Just seven of his 41 hits this year have gone for extra bases but he has collected one in successive days for the first time this year. Six of his seven extra base hits have come at home. Venable also has an RBI in four of his last five games. He is hitting .387 at home this year but just .218 on the road.

A bases loaded third inning error put Chris Young and the Padres in a 5-0 hole versus the Cardinals on Saturday night in San Diego and the home team was unable to produce offensively against opposing pitcher Braden Looper.
"It wasn't my best outing, it wasn't my worst," said Young. "I was a little inconsistent and fell behind too many hitters. They are a good hitting team. You have to make good pitches and a couple of times tonight I made some mistakes and they got hit.
Midland scored eight runs in the last two innings to rally for a 9-8 win over San Antonio. Will Venable was 1-5 with a run scored.
In their regular season finale, Eisbaren Bremerhaven picked up a 72-68 victory over RheinEnergie Koln to lock up fourth place in the BBL. Judson Wallace scored 12 points off the bench. The Eisbaren and RheinEnergie will face each other again in a five game playoff series starting on the 20th.

Chris Young on top of the hill for San Diego tonight at 10:05 pm ET, trying to match Jake Peavy's ace performance from one night previous. The Padres are looking to win their series against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Will Venable moves to the six hole for the Missions, going 2-4 with his third stolen base as San Antonio defeats Midland 6-1. Venable was also 1-4 in the Missions' 6-4 loss to Midland on Thursday.
Anyone hear Denver coach Joe Scott in the booth for two innings during the Colorado Rockies game on Thursday?

Chris Young slowed down the Atlanta Braves for six frames on Monday night and was followed by three near-perfect innings from the Padres bullpen that helped San Diego to a 4-2 victory in the first game of this four game series. Young also walked twice, was hit by a pitch and scored a run. Young was able to stymie Atlanta, something he could not do in 2006.
Braves reliever Chad Paronto hit Young on his left leg with a pitch in the sixth, one inning after Young hit Jeff Francoeur. Plate umpire Jim Joyce warned both benches.
"That's just part of the game," Young said. "It's a lot better than hitting one of our position players."
Corpus Christi scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to grab an 8-5 win over San Antonio. Will Venable was 0-4 in the game.

Chris Young is back at it for San Diego, getting the start as the Padres head to Atlanta for a four game series. 7:05 pm ET first pitch.
Over the weekend, Will Venable and the San Antonio Missions took two out of three. On Friday Venable was 0-3 in a 10-1 loss to Frisco. Saturday saw Venable go 0-3 in a 6-2 victory against Corpus Christi and on Sunday Venable picked up one hit in four attempts as the Missions snared their second game against the Hooks 10-3. Venable's batting average sits at .312 through 30 games.
A surprise for Princeton women's basketball, as head coach Richard Barron stepped down unexpectedly to take an assistant coaching position at Baylor.

A superb performance for Chris Young last night, shutting out the Nationals on three hits over eight innings. Young has pitched 15 frames in his home park this season without giving up an earned run.
"I knew I had to be sharp tonight. This is a good hitting team, and I was just trying to execute good pitches," said Young. "I just made enough good pitches. Overall, it's a good win for the guys -- bouncing back from last night."
The Daily Princetonian has an article about Will Venable's success in the minor leagues, and Venable backed up his press with two more hits and two runs scored as San Antonio used a nine run sixth inning to defeat Frisco 14-6.

The Padres lost to the Diamondbacks 7-4 last night in Arizona. Chris Young pitched into the sixth inning before leaving down three runs. Young had two wild pitches and an error during his outing.
Joe Scott has completed his staff at Denver, hiring Colorado native and former Princeton Director of Basketball Operations John Fitzgerard for the same position with the Pioneers.
Frisco over San Antonio 8-5. Will Venable was 2-4 with a run scored. Venable played all three outfield positions in the series versus the RoughRiders.

An aggressive, commanding performance by Chris Young in an 11-1 Padres victory.
"I had to get my confidence back" said Young. "I was out of sync in L.A. and their hitters made me pay for it. In L.A. I wasn't able to throw strikes. Tonight, I was."
Yesterday's news about the hiring of Sydney Johnson produced a number of articles, most of which used only the quotes and facts provided in the Princeton Athletic Department press release. Exceptions include the Daily Princetonian, who talked to former Tiger Sean Gregory '98 about Johnson, the Trenton Times and the Washington Post, who each provide brief quotes from Georgetown coach John Thompson III.
"It's going to be an unbelievable boon to the program," Gregory said. "When Sydney Johnson walks into your home and you're an 18-year old kid, it's going to make an impression."
"I'm ecstatic," said Thompson, who was an assistant at Princeton when Johnson played there. "As John Thompson, Princeton class of '88, this is a really exciting time."
