Chris Young was surprisingly wild against the Dodgers last night and lasted just two innings. Young faced five batters in the third but retired none of them. The Padres lost 9-3.
C. Young (1-1) - 2.0 IP 7 H 5 ER 5 BB 2 K 4.30 ERA. 84 pitches, 47 strikes.
"I was terrible," Young said, flatly. "I never found my rhythm, never found my groove. Sometimes you can figure it out and find it. I couldn't make the adjustment. I dug us in too deep."
The Trenton Times grasps for new details trying to get information on the Princeton coaching search. While I'm not at liberty to share what I know, lets just say that some of the people they mentioned have already interviewed for the job, but there are a number of people that they haven't unconvered yet who have been seen around Jadwin in the last couple of days. Sorry for the tease.

Tune to ESPN tonight at 8:05 pm ET as Chris Young takes the mound in Los Angeles for the San Diego Padres. In this evening's game versus the Dodgers Young will be attempting to become the first pitcher to make 26 road starts in a row without a loss.
"Had I lost one of those starts between now and then, we wouldn't be talking about it," Young said. "I really attribute a lot of it to luck. I've had a lot of games where I pitched poorly and came [out] with a no-decision or even a win."
In Texas, Will Venable went 2-3 in a 10-3 Missions victory to raise his average to .360 on the season.

Around the newswire today...

As part of the Ivy League's 50th anniversary celebration, this week's feature checks in with former Princeton standout Gabe Lewullis.
The win turned out to be bittersweet, as Carril announced his retirement in the locker room.
"It was kind of chaotic," remembers Lewullis. "We get back to the locker room and everyone is high on life. Carril comes in, doesn't say a word, just goes to the chalkboard and writes down: 'I'm retiring.' It was dead silent. We didn't know what to do so we just started clapping for him."
The San Diego Padres have rewarded Chris Young with a new contract.
On Tuesday, less than a day after Young tossed seven scoreless innings in a victory over San Francisco and less than a month since Towers and Babby met, the 27-year-old had agreed to a four-year contract worth $14.5 million, including a includes a $500,000 signing bonus and a $8.5 million club option for 2011.
He'll receive $750,000 this season, $2.5 million in 2008, $4.5 million in 2009 and $6.25 million in 2010. The deal covers his arbitration-eligible years as well as his first year of free agency.

[Peterson] wants to meet with coach Lickliter before making his decision, but Iowas definitely still in the picture, Jones said. He likes the Iowa campus, players and the AD. He likes Saint Louis because hes from, Springfield (Mo.), and hes got the academic thing going for him at Princeton, so he cant go wrong whichever school he chooses.

Chris Young is keeping a daily blog about his trip to the Pacific Rim for the Japan All-Star Series. You can follow his adventures here. Young will most likely start for the Major League Baseball All-Stars on either 11/7 in Osaka or 11/8 in Fukuoka. Both games start at 4:00 am ET.
The second half of 2006 has been a period of strong Japan/Princeton basketball synergy, with Mason Rocca's visit for the FIBA World Basketball Championships, Coach Thompson's trip as part of "Operation Hardwood III," Chris Young's journey and my parents' vacation all happening in the last three months.

Congratulations to former Princeton center Chris Young for shutting out the St. Louis Cardinals in game three of the 2006 NLDS this afternoon and keeping the Padres' postseason alive. Young becomes the first Princeton graduate to ever win a postseason baseball game.

C. Young (1-0) - 6.2 IP 4 H 0 ER 2 BB 9 K 0.00 ERA. 102 pitches, 63 strikes.
Padres 3 Cardinals 1 - F.
From Elias Sports Bureau:
• Chris Young was 6-0 in road games during the regular season and he earned a win at St. Louis on Saturday. Young is one of 49 pitchers since 1903 to go 5-0 or better on the road during a regular season, but he's the first of those 49 to follow that up with a road victory in the postseason. (1903 was the first year of postseason play in Major League Baseball.)

Former Princeton basketball player (and current San Diego Padres pitcher) Chris Young needs your vote to make this year's Major League Baseball All-Star team. While Chris Young was not named by manager Phil Garner as one of the first 31 members of the 2006 National League All-Star Team (despite better numbers across the board than some of the other pitchers selected), he was named one of five finalists for the 2006 NL Final Vote.
Since 2002 fans at mlb.com have decided the final member of each league's roster through Final Vote. Young is up against four other players (Billy Wagner, Nomar Garciaparra, Chris Capuano and Bobby Abreu) for the 32nd slot on the senior circuit roster.
You can vote for Chris Young via text message or Internet. You can vote from right now until 6:00 pm ET on Thursday.
There appears to be no limit on how many times you can vote. Why vote just once?
Here is all you have to do...
1. Go here.
2. Click on "Cast Your Final Vote."
3. Select Chris Young.
4. Repeat as often as you can between now and Thursday at 6:00 pm ET.
5. Tell other people who might vote for Chris Young.

Former Princeton basketball standout Chris Young pitched at Yankee Stadium on Friday, April 22nd and princetonbasketball.com was there. As a boyhood Yankees fan, it was strange to take the subway to the Bronx and root for the visiting team, but by the end of the night I was used to it.
Because there was no clear policy posted on if you could take photographs while the game was taking place, most of these snapshots are pretty covert.
Things I wish I had been able to take pictures of:
-Bob Shepard's plaid pants.
-The visiting locker room's collection of VHS tapes.
-The secret "media only" concession stand with $1.00 hotdogs and $0.75 pretzels.

The view from the pressbox.

While $200,000,000 sounds like a lot for salary, think of all the money the Yankees
have saved the past four seasons by not having to update their signage.
