Well before there was princetonbasketball.com, there was The 14 Club, one of this site's biggest influences. The 14 Club was a couple from Princeton who traveled to Princeton games from coast to coast (I remember seeing holding a banner on TV when the Tigers played at #1 UNLV), printed the original Seniors on a Stick, hoarded NCAA Tournament tickets for fellow fans and worked tirelessly to support the orange and black.
As if the above wasn't enough, starting in 1990 they self-published an annual bound "Recruiting Wrap-Up" full of photocopied articles about the incoming freshman class with additional pieces they had culled regarding the next season's Princeton schedule and other news of interest. Pre-Internet, this was the best/only way to know about the incoming freshman class.
I recently uncovered their first book, and wanted to share some bullet points based on stories that are almost two decades old.
Cornell was able to handle Missouri's pressure defense, but the Big Red had difficulty consistently putting the ball in the basket. 2008 Ivy League Player of the Year Louis Dale finished 1-11 from the field. Ithaca's finest hung with the Tigers for 20 minutes, but Missouri pulled away over the back half of the game.
A double-double for Princeton recruit Ian Hummer as Gonzaga defeated Bishop McNamara, 66-43. The Purple Eagles play St. Frances Academy in tonight's A.C.I.T. championship game at 8:15 pm ET.
American had a 14 point lead on Villanova early in the second half, before the Wildcats decided to stop trying to match the Eagles jump shot for jump shot and drive. Villanova took the lead back with under 6:30 to go and pulled away at the free throw line for the 80-67 win.
Cornell and Missouri face off in Boise this afternoon.
Ian Hummer scored 15 points as Gonzaga defeated Cathedral, 79-54. The Purple Eagles play Bishop McNamara tonight at 7:30 pm ET.
Hummer is on the roster for the Capitol City Classic, which takes place on April 9th at American University.
Pete Carril is quoted in a Pittsburgh Post Gazette article about 16 seeds.

I grabbed this off the wall outside of the Wawa on University Place in early 1989.
Scrabis had joined Princeton's 1,000 point club earlier in the year - on a free throw, pausing to look to his left before shooting as he always did - and would lead his team to the 1989 Ivy League title, clinching the championship with a victory at Harvard in the final game of the season.
Georgetown (16-15) saw its year end with a 74-72 loss at Baylor that was a microcosm of their season - strong start, confusion after the midway point and then a missed chance to win at the very end.

With that fact in mind, I finally went into my old bedroom at my parents' house and opened up one of the many boxes I've collected over the years labeled "Princeton basketball."

These boxes are a treasure trove of old magazine articles, newspapers, game programs and photographs that I hope to share over the summer.

Tigers head coach Sydney Johnson and princetonbasketball.com editor Jon Solomon sat down on Monday afternoon at Jadwin Gym to review Princeton's final road trip to Columbia, Cornell and Penn in detail. The two also wrapped up the regular season, talked about the contributions of the Tigers' two man senior class and discussed some interesting statistics that came out of the year. The 14th and final interview of the season is 17:00+ in length.
An additional interview with Coach Johnson about the 2009 recruiting class, the 2009-10 schedule and other topics heading into the summer will be posted in early May.
