"He still has the same calmness about him," Scott said. "He knows who he is and sticks to doing what he does best. I wish I could be there (tonight), but I am out here [in Las Vegas] trying to find Chris Youngs for our program."
1981 was the last year until the early 1990s that Topps made basketball trading cards. Each card in this set had three players on it, with perforations that allowed for division into three smaller cards. This Armond Hill card was #21 in the ill-fated series. Chris Young outperformed fellow All-Star Cole Hamels by the slimmest of margins on Thursday night in San Diego. Young pitched seven innings of two-hit shutout baseball as the Padres took the first game of their series with Philadelphia 1-0. Young has started all five of the games this season that San Diego has won with just a single run.
Faced with the same decision he had the last time Young was on the mound, manager Bud Black decided to leave Young in for the seventh inning despite a pitch count in the high nineties. Young struck out two and retired the side in order in the seventh, his 116th pitch a lazy fly ball to left field.
Will Venable was 2-4 a double and a run scored in San Antonio's 9-5 win over Frisco. The Missions are 16-9 in the second half of the season, with a 2.5 game first place lead.
Gonzaga junior center Ian Hummer is the son of former Tigers notable Ed Hummer. He's on the recruiting radar for several Ivy programs, but Princeton is not mentioned by name.

The Princeton Summer League completed its regular season schedule last night. Where2Ball.com defeated George's Roasters & Ribs. Rich Simkus tallied nine points for George's, who finished play with a 4-4 record. The playoffs start Sunday evening at Community Park.
On Monday Will Venable was 3-5 with his fourth regular-season home run of the year and three runs scored as San Antonio topped Frisco 9-6. Last night Venable continued his hot streak with three hits in six at-bats, a run scored and his 14th stolen base. Venable's average is back up to .297.

Padres manager Bud Black took Chris Young out of Saturday night's game versus Arizona after 96 pitches and six excellent innings. Young did not allow a hit until Tony Clark's home run snuck inside the right field foul pole in the fifth. Young has given up just four home runs this season, three of which were by Clark. Young headed to the showers with a 4-1 lead, which the Padres bullpen immediately gave back in the bottom of the seventh when reliever Heath Bell cracked for three runs in less than an inning of work. The Diamondbacks took a 5-4 lead in the eighth and San Diego could not rally. The Padres slipped into second place behind Los Angeles with the loss.
