While Princeton is in Spain, the biggest news relevant to the future of the Tigers happened here in New Jersey. Northstar Basketball is reporting that 6'4"+ New Jersey guard/forward Spencer Weisz has committed to Mitch Henderson's program "over Penn, Fairfield and Fordham, amongst others."
Weisz, who joins Pete Miller and Steven Cook in the 2013 recruiting class, averaged 12.9 points, 7.4 rebounds and 5.9 assists per game for the 26-3 Pirates as a junior.
While I reach out to Weisz's coach at Seton Hall Prep, enjoy videos of the newest Tiger recruit after the jump.
Those who choose to sign up for the 2012-13 campaign get site access from now until October 2013 free at no additional charge. That's 13 months of princetonbasketball.com for the price of a traditional calendar year. Not bad.
Finally, I've again created unique coupon codes for any and all students (high school, college, graduate school, etc) that are interested in joining the princetonbasketball.com family. If you email me I can provide you with a code that automatically generates a discount of 50% off our $30 annual membership fee.
There will be a proper, full fundraising appeal in late September explaining who we are, what we do and why your support is needed (you can read the 2011 appeal by clicking here) but I wanted to give those eager to get a jump on next season the opportunity to stay within the fold immediately and those who have missed out on a summer of copious unique content the chance to get caught up before the season is upon us.
Ps. If you want to direct interested parties who can't access specific posts on the site to this deal, I've cross-posted the same information at a public URL here. Thanks again!
Princeton won their second game in Spain, 66-61 over C.B. Prat. You can see a full box score here. Ian Hummer again led the Tigers, this time with 20 points and seven rebounds. Brendan Connolly added 12 and Will Barrett tallied seven plus a game-best 13 boards.
As he has already done twice so far in games stateside, Mack Darrow's two free throws during the final seconds secured Princeton the victory.
Also of note, 10 points for Chris Clement starting a second straight time at guard and nine for sophomore big Bobby Garbade off the bench.
Princeton won despite shooting 1-9 from three point range and 11-22 on free throws. Turnovers were down considerably from game one against Manresa.
Next on the docket is Tuesday's contest versus LEB Oro squad CB Lucentum Alicante. I believe Darryl Middleton, who at 46 years of age is older than the combined age of any two current Tigers of your choosing, is on this team's roster.
Back home the Mets scored five runs before Chris Young (4-7) had thrown his first pitch versus Florida and the former two sport Princeton standout pitched five innings of five hit, one run baseball as New York won 5-1. Will Venable (video) also slugged his ninth home run of the season.
Finally, a forthcoming book on the Sacramento Kings touches upon Pete Carril and Princeton's 1996 NCAA victory over UCLA.
It has been a busy year for Kareem Maddox since we talked last July. Maddox played his first professional campaign for Dutch First Division team Landstede Basketbal, averaging 9.4 points and 4.7 rebounds a game off the bench before a season-ending injury truncated his campaign.
Maddox and I caught up via the phone for about half an hour on Thursday, and we had the chance to discuss his recent signing with the Newcastle Eagles, the top team in the British Basketball League, who are the reigning BBL Cup, BBL Trophy and BBL Tournament champions.
I think this is an interesting conversation which takes you inside the life of a young free agent trying to make his mark overseas. Thanks to Kareem for his time. A full transcript can be found after the jump.
The Tigers led 26-24 after a fast-paced first quarter, but were outscored 18-10 and 19-15 in the following two stanzas, even with their hosts 15-15 over the final 10 minutes.
Ian Hummer reportedly played quite well tallying 21 points and six rebounds, recording a game-best value of 23. Will Barrett had 13 puntos and seven rebotes, but also committed seven of the Tigers' 25 turnovers.
Neither T.J. Bray or Jimmy Sherburne saw the floor for Princeton so guard duty was handled by Clay Wilson (3), Chris Clement (5) and Denton Koon (6).
Tomorrow afternoon in Spain the Tigers will face C.B. Prat from the country's LEB Plata.
The ACB and PDR sites have more on the game, with both articles already translated for your convenience. CollegeBasketballTalk adds some thoughts as well.
Pete Carril is interviewed at length about how the "Princeton Offense" might work for the Los Angeles Lakers.
Princeton released their 2012-13 basketball schedule yesterday. There weren’t a whole lot of surprises, but with the full slate now known I thought it would be fun to look at the potential pros and cons of this year’s complete fixture list. I hope you’ll add your own sentiments in the comments.
Princeton es en Espana, with Los Tigres' first game coming tomorrow versus Assignia Manresa of Liga ACB, who went 15-19 last season in their country's top division.
Before the team departed, T.J. Bray and head coach Mitch Henderson spoke to the Town Topics.

As a point of comparison, Princeton was 85/93/107 in the same rankings last season.
*The Fordham game will be played at the Barclays Center as part of the Brooklyn Hoops Winter Festival tripleheader.
Tip times and TV information will be added as it is known.
Before recording an out last night Chris Young surrendered two walks, hit a batter and then gave up a grand slam. Young would settle in, allowing five earned runs on four hits in 4.1 frames of work. The Mets rallied and bested Philadelphia 9-5 in 10 innings.
Will Venable continues to streak, hitting .389 in his last 10 games.
The Trenton Times has more on Princeton's trip to Spain.
Princeton departs for Spain tomorrow evening, where they'll be playing four games against top-tier Spanish opponents beginning Friday, while experiencing a fair bit of off-the-court culture during a 10 day oversea trip.
On the eve of their journey - the first such foray out of the country for more than one in their party - head coach Mitch Henderson opened practice to the media and answered 10 minutes of my questions afterwards.
I also had a chance to speak with returning Tigers Brendan Connolly, Clay Wilson and Ian Hummer, who each have varying degrees of experience with international travel not to mention comfort levels with speaking Spanish.
Robert Solomon joined me on this visit at Jadwin. His photos, plus a number of observations and the aforementioned interview audio, can all be found after the jump.
Above, Mitch Henderson answers a few questions in advance of Princeton's trip to Spain.
Speaking of the Tigers' overseas trip, the special uniforms the team will be wearing are very sharp.

I was flattered that my awkward personal interaction with Rick Majerus from 2005 would get referenced in Sports Illustrated. Read the original one act play here!
princetonbasketball.com was founded on April 28th, 1998 in an attempt to provide fans of the Princeton Tigers and Ivy League basketball with the best on-line source for up-to-date news and information. We have since expanded to launch a companion site, Georgetown Basketball News.
As these sites have continued to grow we have increased our coverage to include additional teams with Princeton connections - the Richmond Spiders, Denver Pioneers, Oregon State Beavers, Fairfield Stags and Mercer County Community College Vikings - plus former Tigers playing professional baseball and basketball all over the world. This site is not directly affiliated with the Friends of Princeton Basketball, Princeton University or the Princeton athletic department.
