Princeton's shot selection - updated!

Brian from Hoya Prospectus generated an update to this post from late December of last year.

After the jump you can view a shot selection chart for the entire regular season broken down into five separate columns: Dunks, Layups, Two Point Jumpers, Three Point Jumpers and Free Throws.

There are also separate charts for just Ivy games and just non-conference affairs.

Some interesting numbers. What do you see?

Can't thank Brian enough for doing this.

Coach Mitch Henderson - 3/9/12.

Tigers head coach Mitch Henderson and princetonbasketball.com editor Jon Solomon were able to squeeze in an interview today at Jadwin Gym discussing the final three games of the regular season against Yale, Brown and Penn.

A bigger picture look at the year as a whole will follow after the postseason concludes but on this afternoon the pair reviewed this trio of victories in great detail.

Amid the conversation Solomon and Henderson also talked about if Denton Koon had to fight through the proverbial "freshman wall," the delay prior to Saturday night's game, deciding to start all three seniors against Penn, something Henderson learned during his first season at the helm, if attempts are being made to lobby the NIT for a bid and how the team is using their time before matchups are revealed on Sunday night.

This extended, exclusive Q&A is 20:00+ in length.

If you have questions for future interviews, please feel free to send them here.

Friday News:

Friday, March 9th
Oregon State (9) vs. Arizona (4) - 9:10 pm ET - Pac-12 Tournament - FSN

Up four with the ball twice in the final three minutes, Northwestern (18-13) went scoreless the rest of regulation and in an agonizing overtime were doubled up by Minnesota at the Big 10 Tournament. The 75-68 defeat likely ruins the Wildcats' hopes for an NCAA Tournament at-large entry.

Georgetown (23-8) dropped a double OT thriller to Cincinnati, 72-70. Five missed free throws were costly to the Hoyas. Our friends at Hoya Prospectus crunch the numbers.

If you had Oregon State (19-13) as the last member of the Carril Cradle still playing come Friday, please raise your hand. The Beavers built a 13 point halftime lead and then had to come from eight back to stun top seed Washington by a pair at the Pac-12 Tournament. Robinson said this result might be the biggest win he's had, including his playing days.

The career of Doug Davis and Princeton's season are both on hold, but the Tigers certainly finished strong.

It appears Judson Wallace is suffering from gastroenteritis.

Wallace's college teammate Will Venable doubled off of the Rangers' Yu Darvish in his first major league outing. After the game Venable - who is striving for more consistency from his swing this year - and Darvish had decidedly different views of this hit.

The senior season of Princeton recruit Edo Lawrence concluded with Canterbury's loss in the New England Tournament's quarterfinal round.

Future Tiger Mike Washington, Jr. ended the year as WESCO 3A's second leading scorer.

Big Apple Buckets has updated their NIT projections. This coverage even made the Wall Street Journal. Nicely done, mister.

After initially being placed on paid administrative leave, former Princeton and Georgetown assistant Robert Burke officially resigned as head coach of Mount St. Mary's.

Four more clips after the jump.

What did Patrick Saunders text Keith Wright the day after Princeton beat Penn to send Harvard into the NCAA Tournament?

Mitch Henderson reflects on a regular season where the Tigers started slow and finished strong.

The Town Topics writes about the emergence of Jimmy Sherburne.

Here is the Princeton press release on Ian Hummer and Doug Davis earning All-Ivy status.

Georgetown (23-7) shut down Pitt 64-52 to advance in the Big East Tournament. The Hoyas are back at it this afternoon against Cincinnati in the tourney quarterfinals.

It was Oregon State (18-13) taking down Washington State in Pac-12 Tournament play, 69-64. The Beavers get top seed Washington later today.

Stock up on New Jersey Transit tickets and Metrocards. Craig Robinson's team will come to New York City in November for the 2K Sports Classic at Madison Square Garden. John Thompson III's squad visits Brooklyn a few days later for the last two rounds of the Legends Classic at the Barclays Center, where Princeton will face Fordham the following month.

Minnesota and Northwestern meet in the Big 10 Tournament's first round.

To follow up on last night's post about Princeton making the NIT, add Savannah State to the list of bid thieves.

This lengthy feature on the rise of Harvard basketball is essential, well-researched reading.

Postseason chances: Is the NIT possible for Princeton?

Does Princeton have an honest chance of making it into the 2012 NIT? A popular question around these parts to be sure. The Tigers would certainly like to play in this postseason tournament but I’m unsure at how legitimate that dream is.

So, I did some extensive work after I got home from the Big East Tournament tonight. For this step-by-step exercise I’ll be using Ken Pomeroy’s rankings.

Before you click through, realize that Princeton is ranked 84th in Pomeroy as of this morning. I'll try and update these numbers as we work up to Selection Sunday.

Here we go...

Princeton 62 Penn 52.

Box Score : HD Box Score

Postgame audio - Coach Mitch Henderson, John Comfort, Douglas Davis & Patrick Saunders:

As someone who has slugged through Princeton vs. Penn repeatedly as both a player and as a coach, Jerome Allen’s statement after his team had been withheld a share of the 2011-12 Ivy League title by losing to the Tigers at Jadwin Gym was a surprise.

“How can a team that’s playing for nothing play harder than the team that is supposedly playing for something?” he asked himself.

It was not the circumstance that Princeton wanted to find itself in at the regular season’s close, but when the Quakers come to town there’s always substance on the line.

Tigers senior guard Douglas Davis didn’t see Tuesday’s competition as Allen did, nearly channeling Pete Carril in the process. “Not at all,” he said when questioned if Princeton had nothing to play for. “Every time you step on the floor you’re trying to win. We don’t know what our future holds so we’re just going to play.”

Play they did. Play to win. Especially on defense.
