Will Barrett withdraws from Princeton.

Princeton released a statement today that junior Will Barrett will be withdrawing from school.

Barrett has been sidelined since late November with a right foot injury. He plans to return to Princeton for the 2012-13 season.

Given the timing of this announcement (the school's Spring Term begins February 6th), it seems likely Barrett will be petitioning for an extra season of eligibility. By staying enrolled at Princeton he would have only had one year remaining.

More on the Ivy League's medical hardship rules after the jump.

New Recruit - Steven Cook.

Nic Summers / Sports Star Photos

Steven Cook’s mind was made up, so there was no reason to wait.

Cook, a guard at New Trier High School in Winnetka, Illinois, made the fairly unprecedented decision to verbally commit to Princeton prior to arriving at the midway point of January of his junior year – a full 20 months before he would be enrolling in college.

According to Trevians head coach Scott Fricke, this conclusion may have appeared surprising but it was an easy one to reach.

"Steven's number one choice was to go to Princeton,” Fricke said. He visited a lot of schools over the summer and he played in a lot of camps. He had a lot of people interested in him and Princeton got a hold of him early. [The staff] came out to several open gyms. They really liked the way Steven played and the way that specifically he would play for the ‘Princeton Offense’ style. They thought he was a perfect fit.”

After almost two weeks of phone tag, Fricke and I finally talked about Cook this morning. Exclusive quotes and analysis plus links to player evaluations and videos about the first member of Mitch Henderson’s 2013 recruiting class can all be found after the jump.

If you want to read about the three committed members of the Tigers’ 2012 class, full profiles can be found here.

Tuesday News:

Manor vs. MCCC - 7:00 pm ET

The new polls are out. Georgetown is 9th in the AP and 10th in the ESPN/USA Today rankings. Harvard is 23rd in the latter but does not appear in the former.

Additionally, Florida State holds the 23rd spot in the Associated Press table, which led me to do some research. I believe this means that the Tigers have defeated a team that was ranked at some point during the season after they met for the first time since besting Xavier at Jadwin in December of 2000. The Musketeers would crack the Top 25 two months later.

Correct me if I am wrong.

It has been a busy week for Princeton recruit Steven Cook. After much phone tag I finally talked to New Trier head coach Scott Fricke this morning so expect a full profile on Cook later today.

A senior center from South Dakota is showing interest in the Tigers, Yale and two schools closer to home.

Around the Ivy League: Brown (6-13 / 0-2) defeated Bryant by seven in the final regular season non-conference game for an Ivy team the year.

Princeton / Harvard reception.

This is something I genuinely look forward to every year. Bob Ruxin always packs the Harvard gym with several hundred Princeton fans. If you're going to attend this game, get your tickets from Bob and enjoy an excellent reception afterwards. You'll have the chance to mingle with fellow fans plus the current coaches and players. - JS

Monday News:

Brown vs. Bryant - 7:00 pm ET

Princeton recruit Mike Washington, Jr. had 15 points in Oak Harbor's win over Lynnwood. Washington is the lone member of Princeton's 2012 recruiting class to be nominated for the 2012 McDonald's All American Games.

It took almost eight minutes for Northwestern (12-7) to score and the Wildcats never cut a Minnesota lead into single digits the rest of the way, falling 75-52.

John Thompson III in action (among other plays).

There's plenty of video evidence of John Thompson III coaching basketball, but hardly any out there of Thompson playing basketball.

A pair of recent uploads to YouTube show JTIII scoring and getting fouled, part of a quartet of layups I'm posting today. Above's clip is from Princeton's 62-49 win over Lafayette in January of 1986.

Also on the floor: Alan Williams (#24), Joe Scott (#4) and Bob Scrabis (#34).

Three more clips after the jump. I believe they're all from the same game.

Princeton recruit Steven Cook had 14 points in New Trier's win over Niles West. I've been playing extended phone tag with Cook's high school coach, but a full profile should follow soon.

Yesterday's Mercer game at the Columbia JV was postponed.

Georgetown hosts Rutgers this afternoon.

UMass returns to Richmond. The Spiders have had success without utilizing transfers.

Denver stays on the road at North Texas.

Looking for their first home sweep of the Pac-12's LA teams in seven seasons, Oregon State welcomes USC to Gill Coliseum.

The other seven Ivy teams are in action today. Lots of basketball to monitor.

1981-82 media guide.

Those are some pants.

A subscriber recently handed me a stack of late 1970s and early 1980s Princeton basketball programs, which I'll hopefully be scanning portions of in the weeks to come.

In addition he included a copy of the Tigers' media guide from exactly 30 seasons ago. See some archival photographs (and other items that caught my attention flipping through) after the jump. Click any and all to enlarge.

Several of the guide's graphics I did not include here are already shown in this piece on a Jadwin Gym program from the same time.

Friday News:

MCCC vs. Columbia JV - 2:00 pm ET game postponed.

With a 63-48 win at Louisiana-Monroe, Denver (15-4) has their best DI record through 19 games in school history.

Fairfield (10-9) won its second straight, 75-63 over St. Peter's. After the game Sydney Johnson answered a trio of general questions.

Making 20 of 24 second half free throws, Oregon State (12-7) ended a 13 game losing streak versus UCLA.

A center from Arizona is a name to keep tabs on. This 2013 recruit says Princeton has made him their top target for his class.

The latest Big Apple Buckets Power Poll is out. In the interest of full disclosure, I voted Wagner first and Princeton eighth.

Thursday News:

Fairfield vs. St. Peter's - 7:00 pm ET
Denver vs. Louisiana-Monroe - 8:30 pm ET
UCLA vs. Oregon State - 10:30 pm ET - FSN

Princeton recruit Hans Brase is profiled by The Mercury.

Unfortunately the Tigers have to settle for runner-up status in another key recruiting battle. A point guard from DC who was deciding between Princeton and George Washington has pledged to the Colonials.

GW was cruel to Richmond (11-8) as well, besting the shorthanded Spiders by 18.

Trailing by two at halftime, Northwestern (12-6) was blown away by Wisconsin after intermission. The Badgers made six of seven three point attempts once play resumed on their way to a 77-57 final.

It is time for Geoff Petrie to regain his touch as GM of the Sacramento Kings.

Fairfield plays at St. Peter's tonight.

Louisiana-Monroe hosts Denver.

At Gill Colliseum, Oregon State welcomes UCLA.

This only got uploaded today?

Another angle, and a great angle at that, of the conclusion to last year's Ivy League playoff. Not a bad way to start your morning.

Dispatches from Europe.

There are six different former Princeton players currently suiting up professionally overseas. I asked each of them (minus Konrad Wysocki, who I don't have contact info for) to update how things are going both professionally and personally in Europe. Responses have been slowly trickling back the past month.

Read chronological first person dispatches from Pawel Buczak, Mason Rocca, Kareem Maddox, Dan Mavraides and Judson Wallace after the jump.
