Undefeated Buffalo heads to Jadwin Gym tomorrow afternoon. Right before the deadline after which this exchange wouldn't serve any purpose, I traded emails with Timothy Riordan (not pictured above) of UB Bull Run for the third Know! Your! Foe! preview in as many games this season.

Princeton head coach Mitch Henderson and princetonbasketball.com editor Jon Solomon sat down at Jadwin Gym before practice this afternoon to record a conversation, their second of the season.

Henderson and Solomon reviewed the Tigers' season-opening loss versus Wagner in detail and discussed multiple aspects of Princeton's close defeat at NC State before previewing this week's opponents the Buffalo Bulls and the Elon Phoenix - the start of five games in nine days for the orange and black.

Tulsa vs. Northwestern - 3:30 pm ET - Charleston Classic - ESPNU

John Shurna scored a career high 37 points and Northwestern (2-0) needed every one to beat LSU 88-82 in the first round of the Charleston Classic. The Wildcats move to the winner's side of the bracket along with today's opponent Tulsa, Seton Hall and St. Joe's.

Richmond (2-1) opened the stateside portion of the Cancun Challenge with a 21 point win over Hampton. Spiders head coach Chris Mooney felt this was the best of the three games his team has played so far this season.

Minnesota pulled away from Fairfield (1-2) in the second half, defeating the Stags 67-57.

Denver (3-0) were rude hosts to Conference USA's Southern Mississippi. Chris Udofia tied his career high with 21 and the Pioneers prevailed 59-52.

At a luncheon in New York City on Thursday, Pete Carril was one of three coaches to receive the Joe Lapchick Character Award.

The Daily Princetonian and the Spectrum offer previews of Saturday's game.

Meanwhile, the Princeton Packet previews the Tigers' season.

Around the Ivy League: Penn (2-1) kept Rider winless by busting the Broncs in overtime, 78-72. Miles Cartwright scored 27 for the Quakers. In their home opener Yale (2-1) demolished Lyndon State 101-37.

For The 800 Games Project: The Chase

When I returned home from Raleigh this evening I wrote an essay entitled "The Chase" for the Mid Majority and their ambitious 800 Games Project.

Unfortunately, I didn't read their fine print which specifies that all games must be reserved in advance for publication. My attempts to plead a "Bill Murray exception" were unsuccessful so please enjoy the following which was intended for a different site but I felt still had to run somewhere. - JS

I travel chasing a moment.

Up and down I-95 since I was old enough to drive across state lines - headed to Durham, headed to Columbia, headed to Raleigh, headed to Washington, headed to Winston Salem, headed to Syracuse, headed to Louisville. I’ve witnessed that moment before and I chase after the notion it will happen again.

"The Field."

There was a lot of discussion in yesterday's recap of the NC State game as well as in the subsequent member comments about Princeton's need for a third consistent scoring option.

This got me thinking during the portions of the long drive back from Raleigh where I was conscious - How do the Tigers' offensive statistics look when divided into two distinct categories:

A) Ian Hummer & Douglas Davis
B) "The Field" consisting of the other 15 players on the roster.

The difference in effort and execution between Saturday’s dismal start to the 2011-12 season versus Wagner and yesterday evening’s game at North Carolina State was significant.

Princeton played the game they wanted to play at a more manageable speed, cutting down on many of their defensive lapses and turnovers.

Unfortunately, the end result was the same when time expired.

DeShawn Painter’s long jumper from just inside the three point line broke a 58-58 tie with four seconds left and ruined this much-improved performance by the Tigers in Raleigh.

Less than half a minute earlier Douglas Davis knotted the score with a three point shot drifting to his right, Davis’ fifth three and the seventh deadlock of the evening.

Princeton was unable to get off a better look than a half court try by Ian Hummer as time ran out.

Davis (21 points) and Hummer (15 points) found offensive support from the rest of their lineup in stretches but Mitch Henderson is still looking for both a third offensive option as well as his first win as a collegiate head coach.

The leader of the Big 10 champion Northwestern soccer team mentions Princeton and Michigan State showed interest in having him walk on to play basketball.

A forward headed to FDU was apparently also being recruited by the Tigers among others.

Oregon State hosts Hofstra tonight.

Around the Ivy League: Brown (1-2) dropped a two point decision to Manhattan. Pulling away in the second half, Harvard (2-0) defeated Holy Cross 73-64. Quinnipiac outmuscled Yale (1-1) by an 68-62 count.
