Northwestern (0-2) fell in the final seconds to DePaul 54-53. Richmond (2-3) also dropped a close decision in the final ticks. UMBC dunked home the winning bucket with three seconds to play. Denver (2-2) lost by 18 on the road at Northern Colorado.
Around the Ivy League: Harvard (2-2) bested Mercer by 18 at home on Friday night. Five time zones east of here today, Columbia (1-3) shot 2-21 from three in a 70-38 loss to Albany, Cornell (1-1) saw the Ohio Bobcats race past the century mark in a 102-89 loss, Penn (0-3) dropped their third straight to start the season, this time 80-65 against Howard and Dartmouth (1-2) rounded out a winless day for the league with a 72-57 loss in their home opener versus James Madison.

I caught the last seven+ minutes of this game on TV late last night and while the Pioneers had too many turnovers while trying to run out the clock, Joe Scott's new team did not look as devoid of talent as I expected them to be. The Associated Press reporter was similarly surprised.

Penn (0-1) dropped a 67-59 overtime decision to Drexel at the Palestra. Out west, Dartmouth (0-1) was demolished by Air Force 67-38 and Harvard (0-1) was nearly doubled up by Stanford 111-56.
