The home opener for Denver (2-1) went well. The Pioneers built a 21 point lead and pushed aside a couple late Wyoming runs on the way to a 76-65 victory. I caught the last seven+ minutes of this game on TV late last night and while the Pioneers had too many turnovers while trying to run out the clock, Joe Scott's new team did not look as devoid of talent as I expected them to be. The Associated Press reporter was similarly surprised.

Georgetown (1-0) began its campaign with a methodical 68-53 victory over William & Mary. Roy Hibbert led all scorers with 23 points on 9-11 shooting. The Washington Post has more on the game.
Richmond (1-1) was squashed at the buzzer on a three point shot by Norfolk State's Tony Murphy. The Spiders gave up an 11 point lead with just over four minutes left to play, falling 72-69.
Around the Ivy League: Yale (1-0) opened their season on a good note, recording a 82-71 victory at home over Sacred Heart yesterday afternoon. Cornell (1-0) topped Lehigh 87-83. Dartmouth (1-1) was able to out-score VMI 98-87. In the last game of the night Harvard (0-2) dropped a 79-61 contest against UCSB.

Joe Scott's Denver debut was a wild ride. Denver (1-0) had a twenty point lead with under twelve minutes to play, but the Pioneers needed a free throw with two seconds left in regulation and two free throws with nine seconds to go in overtime to come away with a 76-75 victory over Division II East Central.
The Daily Princeton's Princeton preview is on newsstands. There are stories about new head coach Sydney Johnson, senior co-captains Noah Savage and Kyle Koncz, the Tigers' 2007-08 opponents and Princeton's first test this year, Central Connecticut State.
