Will Venable was 0-4 at the plate in the Padres' final game of the year, a 6-1 loss to Pittsburgh.

Venable's final stats:

28 games. 110 at-bats. 16 runs. 29 hits.

4 doubles. 2 triples. 2 home runs. 10 RBIs.

13 BBs. 21 strikeouts.

Sunday News:

C. Young (7-6) - 6.0 IP 5 H 1 ER 0 BB 5 K 3.96 ERA. 98 pitches, 64 strikes.

Chris Young finished his season with a victory over Pittsburgh. Young improved to 4-0 with a 1.51 ERA against the team that drafted him.

Will Venable was one of Padres manager Bud Black's "pleasant surprises" in 2008.

The New York Times reports that Harvard coach Tommy Amaker has cut five returning players from the Crimson roster.



Saturday News:

Chris Young pitches for the final time this season as San Diego hosts Pittsburgh at 10:05 pm ET.

Will Venable was 2-4 at the plate in the Padres' 6-3 loss to the Pirates last night.

Three well-regarded prospects are reportedly making unofficial visits to Princeton this weekend.

When Blake Wilson left Princeton in late 2006, he was quoted that he would try and walk on at Saint Joseph's after sitting out a year. To update that story, Wilson is not on the 2008-09 Hawks roster.



Friday News:

Will Venable drove in two runs as San Diego defeated the LA Dodgers 7-5.

Sunday News:

C. Young (6-6) - 7.0 IP 2 H 0 ER 4 BB 5 K 4.11 ERA. 111 pitches, 66 strikes.

Chris Young threw seven shutout innings and sent the first pitch he saw at the plate in the seventh inning into the Nationals bullpen for hit his first career home run (video). San Diego beat Washington 6-1.

Georgetown coach John Thompson III was a visitor to the Padres clubhouse before the game.



Saturday News:

Will Venable had three hits, including his second career home run (video) as San Diego beat Washington in 14 innings.

Venable's Friday was less embarrassing than his Wednesday, when Padres rookies had to wear Hooters Girls uniforms on the team flight to the east coast as part of a hazing ritual. Consider yourself warned about clicking on this link. Venable had the good sense to position himself in the back of each photo, however.
