Around the Ivy League: Yale (9-4) controlled the interior in an 82-67 win over Holy Cross. Harvard (12-2) was surprised on the road at Fordham, 60-54. Bucknell remained undefeated versus the Ancient Eight, defeating Dartmouth (3-12) by a 67-59 count. Cornell (4-9) fell on the road to Maryland by eight.
In one of the biggest wins of Craig Robinson's tenure, Oregon State (4-0) rallied late to topple Texas in overtime. Jared Cunningham scored a career high 37 as the Beavers took advantage of their opportunity and advanced to face Vanderbilt in the Legends Classic finals.
Richmond (3-1) opened on a 24-3 run and cruised past Sacred Heart. Darien Brothers got the Spiders moving on offense and on defense.
Harcum took care of Mercer (1-4) by a 83-42 final.
Tonight's Charleston Classic final pits Northwestern and Seton Hall.
Around the Ivy League: Overall it was a good day for the conference. Brown (2-2) rallied for a seven point win over Hartford. Penn (3-1) dug out of an early 10-0 hole to beat Robert Morris, 66-60. The only team in the league to fall on Saturday was Columbia (0-3), who dropped a 66-58 decision at home to American. R.J. Griffin had a career high 29 as Dartmouth (1-2) entered the win column via a 66-62 victory against Bryant. Out west Harvard (3-0) stayed perfect by a 77-67 count at Loyola Marymount.
Tulsa vs. Northwestern - 3:30 pm ET - Charleston Classic - ESPNU
John Shurna scored a career high 37 points and Northwestern (2-0) needed every one to beat LSU 88-82 in the first round of the Charleston Classic. The Wildcats move to the winner's side of the bracket along with today's opponent Tulsa, Seton Hall and St. Joe's.
Richmond (2-1) opened the stateside portion of the Cancun Challenge with a 21 point win over Hampton. Spiders head coach Chris Mooney felt this was the best of the three games his team has played so far this season.
Minnesota pulled away from Fairfield (1-2) in the second half, defeating the Stags 67-57.
Denver (3-0) were rude hosts to Conference USA's Southern Mississippi. Chris Udofia tied his career high with 21 and the Pioneers prevailed 59-52.
Around the Ivy League: Penn (2-1) kept Rider winless by busting the Broncs in overtime, 78-72. Miles Cartwright scored 27 for the Quakers. In their home opener Yale (2-1) demolished Lyndon State 101-37.

Zack Rosen scored 26 points as Penn (1-0) won at UMBC by 14. Harvard (1-0) handled MIT with ease, 76-49. It was a one possession game with under a minute to go, but Dartmouth (0-1) lost at Rutgers by six. Behind 23 points and 13 rebounds from Greg Mangano, Yale (1-0) knocked off Central Connecticut, 73-69.

There's a full page piece on Harvard basketball's recruiting efforts in the new ESPN The Magazine. While the complete article is only available for those with ESPN Insider, I did find the following excerpt about the Crimson's recruiting strategy compared to other schools worth sharing:
"Historically, Ivy coaches have waited to make contact with a prospect until the summer before his senior year, when they have a clear read on his ability to qualify in the academically rigorous conference. But by that point in the cycle, most four- and five-star players have already decided or have chopped down their list of finalists. Amaker, on the other hand, has started identifying smart kids with big-time talent as early as the summer after their sophomore years and has gotten their attention."
I was deeply saddened to read about the sudden passing of Judson Wallace's father Charlie on Thursday at the age of 69. I got to know Mr. Wallace and his family better and better each season during the four years Judson was at Princeton and the friendship between the Wallaces and my parents developed independently to the point where they even came to my folks' home a couple times for brunch during Ivy basketball weekends.
Thinking about Charlie last night as this news sunk in I immediately recalled five unrelated memories:
1. The way he used to remind Judson "fingertips!" from the stands when #30 was at the free throw line. I fully admit I still mutter that word to myself when certain Tigers step up to the stripe in crucial situations.
2. Even in the cold Northeast winters there was something endearing about his insistence on wearing loafers with no socks wherever he went.
3. When I traveled to Atlanta to cover Georgetown in the 2007 Final Four, the Wallaces were adamant that Nicole and I stay at their home with them (despite the fact they were already hosting three of Judson's former teammates) or at least go out for a meal. While I felt uncomfortable accepting their first invitation and the subsequent onset of Passover made the latter offer impossible, I knew that their hospitality was genuine and that by being unable to swing either I had let them down. I was glad that we could reconnect at the Georgia Dome's open shoot-around like old times in Jadwin and beyond.
4. The Wallace family remains the only Princeton basketball parents to add me unsolicited to their annual Christmas card list. Each December it has been sweet to receive a new color picture of the four of them and put it with the other cards on our mantle.
5. A former Army officer, Charlie was convinced from the moment I became engaged that he had the authority to officiate a wedding ceremony between Nicole and I on a boat in the middle of Lake Carnegie. We were eventually married (on dry land) a year after the Wallaces' older son graduated from Princeton.
He was the good kind of character and he will be missed. My condolences to Beth, Stewart and Judson.
