Thursday News:

To bide time during the offseason, ESPN devised an objective formula from which they're counting down the top 50 college basketball programs of the past 50 years. In a "now neither school's fans can argue which team is better" twist, Princeton and Penn tied for 22nd place.

Paralyzed former Rutgers football player Eric LeGrand visited the Tigers yesterday during one of the team's first practices before their trip to Spain. In this picture you can see LeGrand, the Princeton coaching staff and what I believe are the 12 players who will be making the overseas trip.

Wednesday News:

Doug Davis talks about the start of his professional career in Germany.

It was 15 up and 15 down for Chris Young (3-7) last night until an infield single started a four run frame for Colorado, aided by Young's throwing error. Young threw seven innings of five hit baseball, allowing two earned runs and striking out nine.

Will Venable followed up two singles on Monday by equalling his career high with four hits plus three runs scored as San Diego bested Pittsburgh in extra innings. Highlights are streaming here.

I've run two articles through the Google Translate ringer, one on Doug Davis inking a deal with Walter Tigers and the other about Davis arriving in Germany for his physical and the start of training camp.

Chris Young worked out of trouble all night in Cincinnati, throwing 5.2 scoreless innings which were matched frame-for-frame by Mat Latos. A three run home run off the bat of Jay Bruce in the bottom of the ninth gave the night to the Reds.

Chris Young (3-6) was tagged for three home runs in a dreadful 13-0 loss by the Mets to Miami. Young allowed seven earned runs on seven hits in 4.1 innings of work.

Winless in July, Chris Young received decent run support and got back on track in San Francisco. Young retired 12 of the final 13 batters he faced as the Mets bested the Giants 9-1.

At the Olympics, the Dave Blatt-coached Russian team secured a spot in the quarterfinals with a one point victory over Brazil. A thrilling final minute of play concluded with Vitaliy Fridzon's falling down, left pocket three pointer that somehow gave his team the 75-74 decision.

Craig Robinson and Oregon State held their first of 10 summer practices yesterday in advance of the team's trip to Europe.

Congratulations are in order for Mitch Henderson and his wife on the birth of their son Theodore Robert (not pictured above).

I think it is fair to also expect the Dartmouth/Harvard road trip to be the weekend of February 16th and those two teams to return to Jadwin in reverse order the weekend of March 1st. If Penn concludes the conference slate (as tradition has dictated), the only remaining question is where the first game versus the Quakers slots and whether that would come prior to the exam break or not.

Wednesday News:

Georgetown has announced their 2012-13 non-conference home schedule.

Two batters in to his most recent start, Chris Young had already allowed a single and a home run. Young would then find his rhythm and retire 18 of the next 20 he faced without giving up another hit, striking out seven and lowering his ERA to 3.91. The end result was a no decision as Young departed after seven innings and the Mets fell to Washington in extra frames.

Craig Robinson was at the Oregon Air National Guard base to greet his brother-in-law yesterday.

The signing of Mason Rocca by Virtus Bologna is discussed.
