In Canada, they raise their children right.

Congratulations to my friends Jen and Nathan on the birth of their son Reid.

Perhaps Reid can be to the 2006-2007 Princeton basketball season what June Clay Styles was to the 2005 Pittsburgh Steelers. Time will tell.

From the Princeton Athletic Department...

Princeton Men's Basketball Roster Clarification:
Contrary to erroneous media and online reports, sophomore Geoff Kestler has not left the Princeton basketball program. He continues to suffer from an injury that is currently not allowing him to play basketball.

Senior Patrick Ekeruo has left the team for personal reasons.

“There are many things I would like to accomplish in my remaining time at Princeton,” said Ekeruo. “This was a decision I came to after a great deal of thought and discussion with my family, my teammates and the coaching staff. I believe the team is closer now than ever, and I expect them to play well this season.”

New Recruit - Jason Liberman.

On the heels of yesterday's news about Jeff Peterson comes word early this morning from longislandbasketball.com that a 6'5" senior guard/forward from Roslyn, NY named Jason Liberman has "made a verbal commitment" to Princeton.

Liberman was the leading scorer for Nassau County in the Long Island All-Star Game.

Says Pro Hoops, Inc...

"Jason Liberman AKA 'Baby Wally' is one of the best shooters in NY. He has added some size and a confident handle to his arsenall (sic). Jason took his game to another level this summer. We are expecting his name to blow up after some big performances during his High School season."

Newsday also called Liberman "versatile" in passing.

That's about all we've got.

New Recruit - Jeff Peterson.

Scout.com is reporting that 5'11" senior Dematha Catholic point guard Jeff Peterson (left) has given a "verbal" to Princeton University. This has subsequently been confirmed by Dematha coach Mike Jones in a Recruiting Insider post by Washington Post columnist Josh Barr.

Peterson is the first publicly known member of Princeton's 2007 recruiting class.

Here is Barr's Washington Post article about Peterson from March 2006 and a decent feature from I-95 Ballerz about the Missouri native.

Peterson is a teammate of Georgetown recruit Austin Freeman.

Ed Persia from eighty feet out.

December 2, 2002. Ed Persia scores on a hook shot from eighty+ feet away at the buzzer to give Princeton a 60-57 win over Monmouth.

March 20, 1965.

As a special thank you to all of the princetonbasketball.com donors who have renewed with us for the 2006-2007 season, we're pleased to offer an exclusive audio archive of Bill Bradley's final night as a Princeton Tiger - the 1965 NCAA consolation game against Wichita State in which Bradley scored a NCAA tournament record 58 points.

The Tigers defeated the Shockers 118-82, setting four school records that still stand to this day. Bradley was a ridiculous 22-29 from the field and a stellar 14-15 at the free throw line.

first half - 54:29

second half - 50:15

Young gets it done.

Congratulations to former Princeton center Chris Young for shutting out the St. Louis Cardinals in game three of the 2006 NLDS this afternoon and keeping the Padres' postseason alive. Young becomes the first Princeton graduate to ever win a postseason baseball game.

C. Young (1-0) - 6.2 IP 4 H 0 ER 2 BB 9 K 0.00 ERA. 102 pitches, 63 strikes.

Padres 3 Cardinals 1 - F.

From Elias Sports Bureau:

Chris Young was 6-0 in road games during the regular season and he earned a win at St. Louis on Saturday. Young is one of 49 pitchers since 1903 to go 5-0 or better on the road during a regular season, but he's the first of those 49 to follow that up with a road victory in the postseason. (1903 was the first year of postseason play in Major League Baseball.)
