Princeton recruit Ian Hummer scored eight points and grabbed five rebounds in 15 minutes as the Capital All-Stars defeated the U.S. All-Stars, 129-98. Hummer will also play for Team Finish at next weekend's Reebok All-American Games.

Will Barrett tallied 16 points for Bucks County, who advanced to the semifinals of the 2009 Albert C. Donofrio Classic.

Will Venable is back for a second season with the Portland Beavers.

The daughter of former Tiger John Smyth has decided to play tennis at Richmond, turning down Princeton.

Chris Young and the Padres won their first game of the season, 4-2 over the Dodgers.

Princeton recruit Will Barrett scored 13 points for the Bucks County All-Stars in a second round Donofrio Classic victory over Don-Len.

Awards Banquet.

Princeton held its awards banquet at Jadwin Gym tonight.

The worthy recipients of honors at the 2008-2009 banquet included:

Class of 1959 Bob Rock Sixth Man Award - Patrick Saunders.
B.F. Bunn Trophy - Pawel Buczak.
Friedman Memorial Award Trophy - Marcus Schroeder.
Guardian of the Program - Vernon Bugg.

The night set the perfect tone for the end of the season and the start of the work that needs to be put in for greater success next season, with goodnatured jibes delivered between players and coaches and a pair of funny, touching speeches by seniors Jason Briggs and Michael Strittmatter.

On a personal note, it is always an honor to attend this event, and I confess I got a tear in my eye when Coach Johnson announced that Marcus Schroeder was the recipient of the Friedman Award.

The Oregonian writes about the 1965 Final Four.

Princeton recruit Gus Gabel was named Honorable Mention 2008-09 All-Tribune Boys Basketball.

Will Barrett scored four points for the Suburban All-Stars as they bested the City All-Stars by four in the Boys All-Star Labor Classic.

Two short video interviews from the end of San Diego's spring training. The first with Will Venable, the second with Chris Young.

Young made a small adjustment to his delivery on Saturday that has him feeling positive heading into his first regular season start.

John Truhan, coach at Colts Neck, was named Star-Ledger Girls Basketball Coach of the Year. Why am I linking to this story? Truhan has a close connection to Denver head coach Joe Scott and has consulted with Coach Carril about his offense.

The first time I saw Oregon State (18-18) play this season, I could not believe how bad they were.

A bizarre assemblage of misfits and spare parts, their starting lineup would have made more sense at an open casting for a "Major League" sequel on the hardwood.

The seven foot Dutchman who was under the mistaken impression he was a point guard.

The scraggly Sasquatch of a power forward with the long, stringy hair.

The mohawk-sporting guard ripped from the front of the first Fishbone record.

Yet somewhere along the preseason, after a putrid offensive debut at Howard and a one point home loss to Yale, the Beavers began to morph from a punchline that couldn't shoot straight and might not win a Pac-10 game for the second consecutive season into a basketball team.

This turnaround was completed last night, 361 days after Craig Robinson was hired, as Oregon State silenced a sellout crowd of 12,000+ in El Paso and defeated UTEP to win the second annual College Basketball Invitational's best of three finals. 81-73.

Center Roeland Schaftenaar, who was booed loudly every time he touched the ball during both games away from Corvallis, was named the MVP of the tournament, scoring 12 points, grabbing seven rebounds and handing out seven assists from the top of the key.

The same Beavers that couldn't score back in November went 12-19 from behind the arc and shot 56.5% for the game, claiming the first postseason title in school history.

In other news, Oregon State coach Craig Robinson was part of a piece on NPR's Marketplace yesterday afternoon called "Hoop Lessons For The Economy."
