C. Young (8-3) - 6.0 IP 7 H 2 ER 1 BB 9 K 2.14 ERA. 113 pitches, 82 strikes.
It wasn't as dominant a performance as most of his recent starts have been, but Chris Young bested Los Angeles for the first time as the Padres moved back into first place on Friday night. San Diego scored six runs in the fourth and Young was able to work through potentially dangerous situations all game long, giving up just two earned runs.
San Antonio played a doubleheader at Tulsa yesterday. In game one Will Venable was 2-3 with a double and a walk, driving in three runs as the Missions won 5-3. San Antonio completed the sweep with a 10-2 victory in the nightcap. Venable was 0-4.
The Seattle Post-Intelligencer has an enjoyable article about "other guy" Jeff Green out today.
"It got me to the point I'm at today and allowed me to work on every aspect of my game, dribbling, shooting, defense," said Green. "It'll be fun getting the shackles off, but I'll always look back and say the Princeton offense helped me out."

Jeff Green was drafted fifth last night by the Boston Celtics, then traded to Seattle as part of a package deal that brought Ray Allen east. Green heads to Washington state with two other Washington D.C. natives: Kevin Durant of Texas and former St. Joe's guard Delonte West.
Chris Young looks for his first career win against Los Angeles tonight as the Padres and Dodgers start a three game series with the two teams tied for first place in the NL West. First pitch is 10:40 pm ET.
In Princeton Summer League action on Wednesday night, Chris Petrie scored 10 points as Coldwell Banker improved to 3-1 with a 50-40 win over Princeton Youth Sports.

The NBA draft is tonight, and Georgetown's Jeff Green is projected to be picked in the first ten selections. Dick Jerardi of the Philadelphia Daily News feels Green should be drafted third. The Hartford Courant adds more about the future pro's fashion sense.
The Boston Globe has a feature on Dave Blatt out today.
Not much time off in the Texas League. Will Venable and the San Antonio Missions were back on the field last night. Venable was 2-4 with a walk in a 3-2 loss to Tulsa.

Will Venable was 2-3 with a stolen base and two runs scored off the bench in the Texas League's All-Star game. Venable tied the game in the bottom of the tenth inning with a lead-off home run to left field as the South rallied for a 5-4 victory.

Chris Mooney has named former Air Force player Marcus Jenkins as Richmond's Director of Basketball Operations.
In the final game before the Texas League's All-Star break, Will Venable was 0-4 at the plate. The Missions' three game winning streak came to an end at the hands of Midland, 3-1. The All-Star game is tonight in Corpus Christi.

Chris Young returned to the mound for the first time in a week and shut down the vaunted Boston Red Sox lineup on one hit over seven innings. San Diego took a 6-1 decision.
Will Venable was 0-4 on Saturday in a 6-1 San Antonio win over Midland.

Good news for Princeton fans in southern Indiana. As first reported on princetonbasketball.com, the Tigers will be playing at Evansville on Wednesday, December 5th.
Chris Young's start against Boston has been pushed back one day from Friday until Saturday.

In a feature from Black Athlete Sports Network on basketball great Dave Bing, I learned the following:
One university that didn't recruit him was Princeton, exactly where Bing wanted to go. He and his 3.1 grade-point average applied, but the school said no.
Bing went on to Syracuse, but he never forgot how he felt.
"For the first time in my life, I was rejected because somebody told me that I wasn't good enough. . . . I was devastated! I decided (on) my second choice, Syracuse University, and I made up my mind that I would never again put myself in a position where I would have to face rejection,"

The Princeton Summer League began on Monday evening at Community Park. Chris Petrie scored 14 points for Coldwell Banker in a 55-51 loss to Mercedes. Last night Petrie had 12 points as Coldwell Banker defeated Cool Runnings 41-29.

Will Venable was involved in all sorts of action throughout Tuesday's 7-6 San Antonio victory over Corpus Christi. In addition to two hits in four at-bats, Venable was caught stealing once and picked off once.
As expected, Chris Young will appeal his five game suspension.

MLB.com says it is likely Chris Young will appeal his five game suspension.
The Washington Post has more on Jeff Green's decision to stay in the NBA draft, including quotes from his college coach.
"It was a difficult decision on many levels," Georgetown Coach John Thompson III said. "He likes Georgetown, he likes his friends at Georgetown, and I don't want to speak for him, but I think he likes everything about Georgetown. To that end, it was a difficult decision."
Will Venable was 0-2 with two walks for San Antonio, as the Missions found their winning ways again, 5-4 over Corpus Christi.
