Monday News:

This year's Blue Ribbon preview for Princeton has been published, but you need ESPN Insider status to read it. I've posted a capsule summary in the forum.

Tigers head coach Mitch Henderson is one of several athletes and sports announcers to make significant political contributions in September.

Getting the start in Italy, Dan Mavraides had 13 points on 5-6 shooting as Avellino defeated Vanoli. Some highlights can be viewed here.

Friday News:

Georgetown was picked to finish fifth in the Big East preseason poll and sophomore Otto Porter was named preseason first team All-Big East.

It looks like Kyle Koncz will be writing about the life of a Director of Basketball Operations this season.

Rant Sports previews the Ivy League.

An interview with Douglas Davis.

I have wanted to catch up with Doug Davis ever since he signed professionally back in August with the Walter Tigers but we didn't have a chance to exchange emails until this week.

What follows is a tidied-up version of our correspondence. Davis' team is off to an 0-3 start in the German Bundesliga and the former Princeton standout is averaging 4.0 PPG off the bench, scoring nine points his last time out.

You can track his complete season statistics here.

Throwback Thursday: A previously unpublished essay.

It is "Throwback Thursday!" once more on the site.

Let's open with some backstory...

When Scott Cacciola interviewed me last December for a Wall Street Journal piece on first year head coach Mitch Henderson, he reminded me that 10 years previous he had sent a six page essay my way on Princeton basketball that he wrote while in graduate school at Columbia.

I had only a vague recollection of this, so I was delighted when a hard copy turned up during this summer's mammoth garage/basement reorganization project. I checked with Scott and he said I could run it - though I neglected to mention Pete Carril's name is misspelled throughout...

All kidding aside this is an interesting, previously unpublished look at Princeton basketball in the early aughts using interviews with John Thompson III, Jamie Mastaglio, Gabe Lewullis, Mitch Henderson and others to drive the narrative.

Thanks for letting me share this, Scott!

Pundits! Pundits!

There aren't as many as in years past, but the tried-and-true glossy college basketball previews have hit newsstands for 2012-13. However, most of these pieces were filed before Harvard lost two key starters, so take that into consideration.

For a prior seven years of prognostications, click the Season Previews category above.

Here are some of the Ivy-centric print and web projections out there, with more to be added as they're published.

2012-13 schedules.

The annual ordeal of tedious data entry is complete and I'm happy to report that color coded 2012-13 electronic calendars for each of the "Carril Cradle" teams are available after the jump! You can download any or all of the following to sync with your computer/PDA.

Each basketball schedule will be updated whenever a tip time is adjusted or new TV information is unveiled. If past performance is any indication, I expect multiple revisions between now and November 9. These links will work best with iCal but are importable into Google Calendar.

If you notice any errors with games/dates/times/locations, please let me know.

Three Ivy contests for the Tigers to air on NBCS.

For the first year of the Ivy League's television deal with NBC Sports Network, the channel picked up a full compliment of potential games including three that feature Princeton:

The Ivy opener on Saturday, January 12 at home versus Penn (6:00 pm ET), when the Tigers host Columbia on Saturday, February 2 (6:00 pm ET) and the orange and black's visit to Harvard on Saturday, February 16 (7:00 pm ET).

It is already known that ESPNU will be broadcasting the second meeting between the Crimson and Princeton.

That's 4/14 of the Tigers' conference slate going out to a national audience.

In addition, I have noticed that Time Warner will air the Syracuse game but the range of that transmission is unknown.

Wednesday News:

The relationship between Ian Hummer and his father is the crux of a Yahoo! Sports profile on the Princeton senior forward.

Yahoo! also ran a full Ivy League preview yesterday.

It is unlikely you will make it all the way through this piece on the relationship between Richmond coach Chris Mooney and a former manager without getting teary-eyed.

Judson Wallace scored eight points on 2-10 shooting and grabbed a game-best 13 rebounds in 22 minutes of play off the bench as FC Barcelona defeated the Dallas Mavericks, 99-85.

While the visiting team played without star Dirk Nowitzi, it was the third straight victory for the top team in Spain over an NBA foe. Wallace did not see action in the first quarter but was a significant contributor the rest of the way with a team-high five assists including a pair of no look perimeter passes that set up three point shots for teammates.

The Princeton alum recorded a left wing three, a rebound follow tipping the ball away from the Mavs' Shawn Marion and a trio of free throws.

Elsewhere in Europe, Kareem Maddox is off to a "dream start" with Newcastle.

J. Richey Nash, who earned a varsity letter as a member of the Tigers in the 1986-87 season, is the writer, star and co-director of a new film titled "Hitting the Cycle" that is making its premiere this week.

La di da di. Georgetown's Midnight Madness will feature Doug E. Fresh.

A prospect from Nevada chose Harvard over Stanford, Princeton, Cal, UC Santa Barbara and Lehigh.

The Crimson have adjusted their roster for the upcoming season. Officially absent are Kyle Casey, Brandyn Curry and junior Matt Brown.
