I had a chance to tape a wide-ranging interview with Princeton basketball head coach Mitch Henderson at Jadwin Gym today.
This Q&A has been divided into two segments, the longer of which can be streamed after the jump and the second of which will go live tomorrow.
In part one (which runs 21:00+) topics of conversation include:
Preparing for year two versus prepping for Henderson's first season at the helm, the incoming three man freshman class, changes to recruiting and the Evaluation Periods that went into effect this off-season, the program's new Director of Basketball Operations, Princeton's various basketball camps and the 2012-13 schedule.
After you're done listening feel free to explore a full archive of our weekly discussions from last season.
Sophomore guard Clay Wilson is preparing for a breakout second season at Princeton.
T.J. Bray and Jimmy Sherburne played their first game as teammates in the Milwaukee Summer Pro-Am. While both put up nice stat lines, it is concerning to read Sherburne had to leave the contest due to a shoulder injury.
Mason Rocca has an offer on the table from Virtus Bologna and is expected to give them an answer today.
Matching shutout innings with Jordan Zimmermann into the sixth, Chris Young (2-4) allowed a two run home run by Adam LaRoche and that was enough to send the Mets to defeat. Young gave up six hits and was aided by a pair of double plays.
T.J. Bray and Jimmy Sherburne are teammates back home this summer in the Milwaukee Summer Pro-Am. While Sherburne has yet to suit up, box scores for Schell Dentistry's first and second games are available.
It sounds like Ian Hummer was causing problems for opponents this weekend at the Kenner League.
At the Addidas Invitational, a small forward continued to list Princeton among his suitors.
Pitching on extended rest in the first game after the All-Star break for the Mets, Chris Young (2-3) had his worst start of the year, allowing five earned runs in three innings of work.
The details on Young's incentive-laden deal with New York are interesting.
His team down to its last strike, Will Venable (video) was right in the middle of a bizarre sequence that allowed San Diego to rally past Los Angeles.
A specific email cemented the relationship between Chris Mooney and his Athletic Director at Richmond.
Here’s the latest collection of videos from various corners of the Princeton basketball family. Above, highlights of Princeton's 1990 NCAA Tournament game versus Arkansas. I posted these one year ago but they subsequently vanished and then resurfaced online.
Did you know Princeton is one of six schools to make the NCAA's Public Recognition List since the Academic Progress Rate began in 2006? Well, now you do.
Here's a helpful directory of who is playing on each Kenner League team. This document will be updated as the summer goes on.
Georgetown recruit Stephen Domingo will apparently enroll in college immediately, a year earlier than expected.
Former Hoya Hollis Thompson has signed a three year deal with Oklahoma City.
Oregon State's Craig Robinson answers some offseason questions.
Bill Carmody likes Northwestern's newfound depth. The Wildcats also appear to be moving up in the recruiting world.
Montgomery High School and Rutgers graduate Brett MacConnell has been hired as Princeton's new Director of Basketball Operations, replacing the departed Kendrick Saunders.
MacConnell previously held the same position at St. Peter's for one season and has also coached at Holy Family University and Delaware Valley College. While enrolled at Rutgers he was a manager all four years for the men's basketball team.
In 2009 MacConnell made the Northstar Basketball list of "Local Soon-to-be Division I Assistant Coaches."
Also of interest, it was MacConnell who tipped the Siena coaching staff to speedy guard Evan Hymes, who torched Princeton in Albany last season.
You can follow the newest member of Mitch Henderson's staff on Twitter here.
As we hit the All-Star break, San Diego's Will Venable is slumping, hitting .091 in his last 10 games and down to .248 for the season. Venable has six home runs, 16 doubles and 21 RBIs as baseball pauses midway through the campaign.
Since returning from injury in June, Chris Young has started six games for the Mets. His 2-2 record disguises a 3.41 ERA. Young has pitched at least five innings in each of his starts.
After throwing six shutout innings against Philadelphia the last time out, Young was touched up for three runs in the seventh as the Phillies rallied past New York. Batters are hitting far better versus Young the third time through the lineup.
Pete Carril is part of the first class that will be inducted into the Reading High Athletic Hall of Fame.
Those in the DC area can watch Ian Hummer play at the Kenner League for Hoop Magic.
A superb two week summer vacation ends for Team Solomon tomorrow and we'll return to a regular posting routine on the site come Monday but here's one more tidbit:
A 2012-13 schedule that is expected to include many return matches from last year's slate will definitely include a trip to Lafayette's Kirby Sports Center on November 24th.
Several current and former Princeton players will suit up at the DelCo Pro-Am. Games kick off this Sunday.
Like the Tigers, Richmond also will be heading overseas in August.
He never played in college due to injury, but being hobbled actually set in motion the start of a relationship for Brian Elbogen, who got married last weekend. Aw.
Did you hear a former Harvard center is using the NCAA's graduate school eligibility option to play a final season at Boston College?
Unlike his last start versus the Yankees, where one pitch ruined his night, Chris Young (2-1) did not suffer a similar slip in the seventh inning against the Dodgers. Young allowed two earned runs on six hits while striking out six as the Mets defeated LA on the road 3-2.
Names like Georgetown's Hollis Thompson and Henry Sims (frozen by the top of Jay Bilas' Best Player Available list for most of the second round), Northwestern's John Shurna and Fairfield's Rakim Sanders were not called during last night's NBA Draft, but Oregon State's Jared Cunningham rose to 24th and was selected by Cleveland before being traded to Dallas.
Georgetown now knows their 18 Big East opponents for 2012-13. The Hoyas will travel to this area for games at Rutgers, St. John's and Villanova.
An interview with John McPhee makes for excellent reading.
Will Venable was one of two Padres to attend the Salute to the Negro Leagues luncheon in San Diego.
During my travels Venable hit his sixth home run of the season (video), a shot originally ruled a triple on the field.
princetonbasketball.com was founded on April 28th, 1998 in an attempt to provide fans of the Princeton Tigers and Ivy League basketball with the best on-line source for up-to-date news and information. We have since expanded to launch a companion site, Georgetown Basketball News.
As these sites have continued to grow we have increased our coverage to include additional teams with Princeton connections - the Richmond Spiders, Denver Pioneers, Oregon State Beavers, Fairfield Stags and Mercer County Community College Vikings - plus former Tigers playing professional baseball and basketball all over the world. This site is not directly affiliated with the Friends of Princeton Basketball, Princeton University or the Princeton athletic department.
