Could the commitments of Amir Bell and Spencer Weisz mean more New Jersey player on future Princeton rosters?

Northwestern (11-7) used their 1-3-1 defense to confuse #2 Indiana in the second half as the Wildcats almost came back from 17 down before falling to the Hoosiers 67-59.

Tonight Fairfield hosts Loyola (Md.) and Georgetown continues on the road at Notre Dame.

Indiana vs. Northwestern - 1:00 pm ET - Big Ten Network

Princeton recruit Spencer Weisz had 15 points and 12 assists for Seton Hall Prep at the Coaches vs. Cancer Challenge.

Darien Brothers scored a career high 39 as Richmond (12-7) recorded the victory of the day among Carril Cradle teams, 81-61 over previously 15-2 Charlotte.

Denver (11-7) continues to find their lone season in the WAC to their liking. The Pioneers won their seventh straight, 68-57 over Utah State.

Georgetown (12-4) fell short at South Florida, 61-58.

USC topped Oregon State (10-8) by one. The Beavers had the ball in the lane as time expired but could not get off a legitimate look at the basket.

Mercer (14-5) lost 66-53 to Harcum.

Around the Ivy League: Harvard (9-6 / 1-0) was able to overcome a 20 point deficit at Memphis but once the Crimson took the lead the Tigers closed on a 16-4 run across the final 6:40. Columbia (9-6 / 1-0) used a 13-0 second half run to create enough space between themselves and Cornell (8-10 / 0-1) in Ithaca. Penn (3-14 / 0-1) returned to their losing ways, falling 79-59 to St. Joe's at the Palestra. In a bit of a surprise, Brown (7-8 / 1-0) built as large as a 49-29 second half lead in their conference opening victory over Yale (6-12 / 0-1).



Friday News:

Fairfield vs. Iona - 9:00 pm ET - ESPNU

Northwestern (11-7) led from wire to wire in an unexpected victory at #23 Illinois, 68-54.

Make it six straight for Denver (10-7), who beat San Jose State by 36.

UCLA kept Oregon State (10-7) winless in Pac-12 play, 74-64.

Princeton recruit Spencer Weisz is a nominee for the 2013 McDonald's All American Game.

Future Tiger Amir Bell and East Brunswick improved to 11-0 with a second victory over St. Joseph.

It sounds like Hashim Moore had another strong defensive performance for the Hun School.

The Town Topics reviews Princeton's win over Penn.

Eight points, eight rebounds and six assists from Judson Wallace in FC Barcelona Regal's latest Euroleague triumph, including a pair of fourth quarter three pointers to put the result away.

Around the Ivy League: Despite 26 turnovers, Penn (3-13) ended their eight game losing streak by surviving 54-53 at NJIT. Dartmouth (4-11) bested Colby-Sawyer, 80-42.

Yesterday outfielder Will Venable signed a one year deal with San Diego, avoiding arbitration in the process.

Georgetown (12-3) forward Greg Whittington has been officially declared academically ineligible. Without their second leading scorer, the Hoyas went out and opened up as large as a 23 point lead in a 74-65 victory over Providence.

Butler beat Richmond (11-7) by 15 at Hinkle Fieldhouse.

Northwestern travels to Illinois, Denver hosts San Jose State and Oregon State plays at UCLA.

So...who wants to pony up and trick out Jadwin Gym in this fashion?!



Monday News:

The Daily Princetonian reviews the Tigers' victory over Penn and also discusses how in the past five games Mitch Henderson has finally found the right rotation.

Kareem Maddox and the Newcastle Eagles lost in the BBL Cup finals to Leicester Riders. I got to watch some of the first half, including a play where Maddox was dunked on with some conviction.

A rival coach had some very nice words about Princeton recruit Steven Cook.

Fairfield (10-8) was nipped by Niagara, 67-64.

Shooting under 30% from the floor for the game, Northwestern (10-7) struggled their way to a 70-50 loss versus Iowa.

Brown (6-8) overpowered Daniel Webster, 71-34 and a 22-1 second half run aided Cornell (8-9) in the Big Red's 103-84 decision over Old Westbury.

Denton Koon and Princeton are set for tomorrow's conference opener.

The Daily Princetonian rapidly reviews the Tigers games during the school's holiday break.

Denver (7-7) raced past UT-San Antonio, 75-50. The Pioneers are 3-1 in WAC play.

Bill Carmody had Northwestern (9-6) utilize almost all of every possession at #9 Minnesota. It worked for a while, as the Wildcats trailed 19-18 early into the second half. A 23-5 run over the next seven minutes gave the Golden Gophers comfort the rest of the way.

Leading by six at the break, Oregon State (10-4) was outscored 51-32 in the second half of their conference-opening loss to Oregon.

Around the Ivy League: Cornell (7-9) won 68-60 at American. Florida visited Yale (5-11) and came away with a 79-58 decision.

Returning to action after the holidays, Mercer (11-4) went down 79-62 at CCRI. Mustafa El Amin scored 25 for the Vikings in defeat.

I had no idea that occasional Princeton J.V. player and pitcher Stephen Elmore was using the NCAA's grad student exemption to play a season of basketball at The Citadel.

Denver hosts UT-SA, Northwestern travels to #9 Minnesota and Oregon State hosts Oregon in a Pac-12 opening "Civil War."

Around the Ivy League: Penn (2-11) committed 21 turnovers in their 74-57 loss at La Salle. Columbia (8-5) won 64-52 at Army. Harvard (8-5) destroyed Rice by 30. Colgate made 10-13 three pointers in a 78-62 win at Dartmouth (2-10).

Brown vs. Rhode Island - 7:00 pm ET - OSN
Yale vs. Holy Cross - 7:00 pm ET

Princeton recruit Steven Cook was named to the All-Tournament Team after the conclusion of the mammoth Proviso West Holiday Tournament. Cook's New Trier squad finished sixth out of 32 teams. You can watch the complete sixth place game here.

Fairfield (10-5) won their sixth straight, an impressive 66-45 decision at conference leader Canisius.

Shooting 9-18 from three point range, Denver (6-7) bested Texas State by 11.

#2 Michigan opened on a 20-4 run and had no issues with shorthanded Northwestern (9-5). The Wildcats were without the services of leading scorer Reggie Hearn in the 94-66 loss.

Howie Levy's son Lior had 16 points for Princeton High School, who won at Trenton for the first time in nearly two decades on a three pointer at the buzzer.
