Happy New Year!

One Rattler went to scout Princeton in person on Friday night.

It was not pretty, but Georgetown (12-1) scored the final eight points of a 49-40 win over Providence.

Denver (11-3) was upended by UALR at home, 66-59.

Washington State held off a late Oregon State (10-4) rally, keeping the Beavers winless in the Pac-12.

Fairfield starts the new year with Canisius at home.

Penn State visits Northwestern tonight.

Around the Ivy League: Dartmouth (3-11) lost their fourth straight, 65-61 versus Holy Cross. Despite shooting 11-21 from three point range, Yale (8-4) fell by 20 at #10 Florida. Missing two shots to tie in the final 12 seconds, Cornell (4-8) stayed winless on the road after a 63-60 defeat at Bucknell. Harvard (12-1) came from 10 down at the break to record a very nice 74-69 win over St. Joe's.

Yale had a tough time with Florida but that is hardly surprising after the Gators were upset at Rutgers. The Yale team will cause many of its Ivy foes a lot of problems. They have some very good personnel, other than Mangano, who is a great talent. But Connolly has the ability to hold him down, if he can stay out of foul trouble aginst him. Cornell must have played a good game against Bucknell. Opening in Ithaca will be a challenge. Having watched the FSU game for the second time I am even more relieved than I was watching it happen. FSU had a lot of chances to win, starting with FT's. (We know how that is.) Denton Koon looked a little freshman-like at times. It appeared to me that he got lost on the in-bounds slam that might have been a momentum-shifter for FSU. Hummer's dunk on a baseline in-bounds for us should be on the highlight film. His footwork is amazing.
