Tuesday News:
Will Venable is on a tear. Venable picked up three more hits versus Atlanta and made a diving catch (video) in the seventh inning to protect a one run San Diego lead.
Over the weekend Venable hit his third home run in as many games (video) as the Padres bested Milwaukee 4-2. Venable is hitting .476 across his last five games and has raised his average this season to .254.
It doesn't look like Chris Young will be joining Venable on the Padres' active roster anytime soon. Young was transferred to the 60-day disabled list on July 31st.

I had a chance to speak with Princeton assistant coach Scott Greenman yesterday afternoon about his experiences as head coach of the Junior USA men's basketball team during the 18th Maccabiah Games earlier this month.
Greenman was happy to go into detail about his return to Israel and to discuss his team's loss at the buzzer versus Israel in the gold medal game. This Q&A is 15:00+ in length.

Will Venable went 0-4 at the plate for San Diego last night in Cincinnati, lowering his batting average to .209.
Chris Young played catch yesterday without soreness, but his recovery from a shoulder inflammation is taking longer than planned.

Jim Lane will not coach at Union after all.
I received the surprising news today that Jim Lane will not be the head coach of Union County College this season. While Lane was announced by the school as its new coach in May, the former Princeton center was unable to work out philosophical differences with UCC before finalizing his contract - despite having already held team meetings, done recruiting and supervising "open gym" scrimmages.
Lane will instead be teaching history at the CREATE Charter Middle School in Jersey City and is looking forward to moving on from this false start.

I turned up a short stack of pictures - one from Princeton's 1999 NIT win over Georgetown at Jadwin Gym and two from the Tigers' subsequent victory at NC State five days later. The final two photos are undated from some point during the 1999-2000 campaign.
