The eight head coaches for the schools participating in the 2007 Maui Invitational met the media just after sunrise on Saturday morning. Following brief statements and some group photos, the coaches paired with local grade school kids for a free throw shooting contest.

Northwestern (0-2) fell in the final seconds to DePaul 54-53. Richmond (2-3) also dropped a close decision in the final ticks. UMBC dunked home the winning bucket with three seconds to play. Denver (2-2) lost by 18 on the road at Northern Colorado.
Around the Ivy League: Harvard (2-2) bested Mercer by 18 at home on Friday night. Five time zones east of here today, Columbia (1-3) shot 2-21 from three in a 70-38 loss to Albany, Cornell (1-1) saw the Ohio Bobcats race past the century mark in a 102-89 loss, Penn (0-3) dropped their third straight to start the season, this time 80-65 against Howard and Dartmouth (1-2) rounded out a winless day for the league with a 72-57 loss in their home opener versus James Madison.

There aren't many college basketball road trips longer than the one from Mercer County to the Maui Invitational, but these opportunities don't come around often. Northwestern (0-1) rallied in the second half to tie their season opener with Stanford before the Cardinal pulled away late for the 71-60 victory. The Wildcats were outrebounded by 21.
Georgetown (2-0) raced out to 12-0 and 28-7 leads against Michigan, coasting to a 74-52 win.

Ask Princeton head coach Sydney Johnson about the Tigers and he'll explain it as simply as possible - "We pass, dribble, shoot. That's what we do."
With the shot clock ticking down, seventy seconds to play and Princeton clinging to a 59-55 lead, a tightly guarded Lincoln Gunn didn't have much time to choose from those options.
New Recruit - Chris O'Brien.
We'd been looking across the Internet for confirmation on this name for several weeks, but didn't turn up an article until this afternoon. An August 2007 story from the Orange County Register mentions in passing that 6'4" Chris O'Brien of Northwood High School in Irvine, California has announced he plans to attend Princeton next year to play basketball.

The home opener for Denver (2-1) went well. The Pioneers built a 21 point lead and pushed aside a couple late Wyoming runs on the way to a 76-65 victory. I caught the last seven+ minutes of this game on TV late last night and while the Pioneers had too many turnovers while trying to run out the clock, Joe Scott's new team did not look as devoid of talent as I expected them to be. The Associated Press reporter was similarly surprised.
