Thursday News:

To bide time during the offseason, ESPN devised an objective formula from which they're counting down the top 50 college basketball programs of the past 50 years. In a "now neither school's fans can argue which team is better" twist, Princeton and Penn tied for 22nd place.

Paralyzed former Rutgers football player Eric LeGrand visited the Tigers yesterday during one of the team's first practices before their trip to Spain. In this picture you can see LeGrand, the Princeton coaching staff and what I believe are the 12 players who will be making the overseas trip.

Want some names to keep tabs on as possible Princeton recruits? These lists from ESPN and Scout show prospects with varying levels of interest in the Tigers.

Now batting second in the Padres' lineup, Will Venable is 10-16 at the plate in his last four games.



Wednesday News:

Doug Davis talks about the start of his professional career in Germany.

It was 15 up and 15 down for Chris Young (3-7) last night until an infield single started a four run frame for Colorado, aided by Young's throwing error. Young threw seven innings of five hit baseball, allowing two earned runs and striking out nine.

Will Venable followed up two singles on Monday by equalling his career high with four hits plus three runs scored as San Diego bested Pittsburgh in extra innings. Highlights are streaming here.

The 2012-13 Denver basketball schedule has been announced.



One for for the schedule: Wagner.

Wagner isn't playing a whole lot of games in 2012-13, but they will host Princeton on the evening of November 28th.

This will be the first contest at the Spiro Sports Center for new Seahawks head coach Bashir Mason.

The Tigers have split their previous two meetings with Wagner, falling 73-57 in last season's curtain-raiser and winning on Staten Island 69-57 in December of 2010.



Monday News:

Will Venable had a nice day at the plate yesterday versus San Francisco, including three hits and his eighth home run (video) of the season.

An all-state Floridian with interest from both Princeton and Fairfield is moving to Alabama.

There's an "explosive point guard" from Maryland who lists the Tigers among 16 schools.

A big man whose name had been associated with several Ivy programs will instead play baseball at Duke.

Wednesday News:

Rush The Court has published their "summer school" offseason update for the Ivy League.

The Journal provides more about "old head on young shoulders" Kareem Maddox signing with Newcastle.

I've run two articles through the Google Translate ringer, one on Doug Davis inking a deal with Walter Tigers and the other about Davis arriving in Germany for his physical and the start of training camp.

Chris Young worked out of trouble all night in Cincinnati, throwing 5.2 scoreless innings which were matched frame-for-frame by Mat Latos. A three run home run off the bat of Jay Bruce in the bottom of the ninth gave the night to the Reds.

Kareem Maddox to play in England.

After one season playing for Landstede Basketbal in the Netherlands (where he averaged 9.4 points and 4.7 rebounds a game), Kareem Maddox is moving westward to the United Kingdom, as he has signed with the Newcastle Eagles.

Newcastle is the top team in the British Basketball League, having swept the BBL Cup, BBL Trophy and Tournament in 2011-12.

Maddox's fellow Zwolle teammate and Brown alum Damon Huffman has also signed with the Eagles.



Monday News:

Dave Blatt and Russia took the bronze at the Olympics with a thrilling 81-77 victory over Argentina. The Russians scored the game's final five points in the last 37 seconds. Before tipoff the MetroWest Daily News spoke with Blatt.

Fairfield head coach Sydney Johnson gives a positive review to the NCAA's rule change allowing limited scrimmages and individual skill sessions during the summer.

Over the weekend Will Venable (video) smacked his seventh home run of the season, his first since the All-Star break.

Friday News:

Projections for Ian Hummer and other standout returning players for 2012-13 have been calculated.

Chris Young (3-6) was tagged for three home runs in a dreadful 13-0 loss by the Mets to Miami. Young allowed seven earned runs on seven hits in 4.1 innings of work.

Will Venable leads the Padres in hitting with runners in scoring position.

ESPN's College GameDay is coming to DC on March 9th as Georgetown hosts rival Syracuse in their final Big East matchup.

Northwestern has announced some minor updates to their schedule.

Harvard has released their home men's basketball slate. That information, combined with the announcement of Princeton's women's basketball schedule all-but locks in dates for 13 of the Tigers' 14 Ivy contests.
