Princeton starts their Ivy slate Friday night in Ithaca and princetonbasketball.com is here to prep you for the Tigers' swing through New York State. As part of our Know! Your! Foe! series please welcome Brian Delaney back to the site.
Brian was with the Ithaca Journal last season but has since moved on to 1160 ESPN. Check out what one of the best Ivy reporters out there and the top source on Cornell basketball had to say about the Big Red.
Our email exchange can be found after the jump.
A Columbia Lions preview will follow tomorrow.
If you cover a team the Tigers will face down the line, let us know. It would be great to talk with you.
The Ivy League held its third-annual Men's Basketball Midseason Media Teleconference this morning, with all eight coaches answering questions from media.
The portion of today's Q&A with Princeton coach Mitch Henderson is available above. An mp3 of the full program can be found here.
An article on how early action has changed recruiting at Princeton talks to Hans Brase. If you want to go see Brase in action The Hill School plays at The Lawrenceville School today and Hun on Saturday.
Mercer (4-13) defeated Union, 59-53. Ryan Hanley scored 16 in the Viking victory.
As promised yesterday, here's the second stanza of Princeton's 70-62 win at St. Joe's in the first contest of 2010. Current Tigers Douglas Davis and Ian Hummer had 17 and 10 points respectively, two of the four Princeton players in double figures.
There were a lot of stoppages in the final 20 minutes, so they're divided into 11 separate files. The first half can be found here.
La Salle vs. Penn - 7:00 pm ET
Harvard vs. Monmouth - 7:00 pm ET
Cincinnati caught Georgetown (13-3) late and defeated the Hoyas 68-64. John Thompson III's team was done in by 17 turnovers. For postgame audio check Hoya Hoops and Hoya Prospectus crunches the numbers.
Brendan Connolly represents Princeton on the latest Ivy League Men's Basketball weekly release.
With the football team possessing the longest bowl losing streak (it pains me to type those words), Northwestern looks to end another streak by making the NCAA Tournament for the first time.
I had not seen this photo from the Princeton/Florida State game before.
Congratulations to John Sadak on being named 2011 Delaware Sportscaster of the Year .
The Princeton athletic department was nice enough to generate and send over plus/minus numbers on each of the Tigers for the 2011-12 non-conference slate.
This initial chart shows the number of minutes played across the first 16 games this season and the difference in points scored by Princeton while each player was on the floor versus points allowed by the Tigers during the same span.
I've also broken down +/- per 40 minutes for all current rotation players, pulled +/- for DI opponents only and added Net/40 numbers ("Roland Rate") with inspiration from Hoya Prospectus.
The third of three complete Princeton games that were recently uploaded to YouTube is the Tigers' 70-62 win at St. Joe's in the first contest of 2010.
While Princeton had struggled to crack 40 points in their final two tilts of '09 versus Monmouth and Wagner, they knocked down their first first four three point shots on Hawk Hill and desperately held on at the end for a victory in a hostile environment.
Pawel Buczak was a perfect 5-5 from the field as his team led for the final 37:53, one of four Tigers in double figures.
The first half of the game is divided into seven files, with six videos coming after the jump. I'll embed the second half tomorrow.
Around the Ivy League: Columbia (11-5) won their fourth straight, 65-60 at Elon. Greg Mangano had 35 points and grabbed 22 rebounds in an 101-86 Yale (10-4) victory over St. Joseph's (L.I.).
Junior center Brendan Connolly scored a career high 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds as Princeton dusted off their home uniforms for the first time since just after Thanksgiving and bested The College Of New Jersey by 11.
Substituting liberally – 11 players saw action in the first half and all 15 Tigers in uniform played – while experimenting with different combinations (leading scorer Ian Hummer was on the floor for just 15 minutes) Princeton led by seven at halftime before opening the back frame on a 13-2 run. Their advantage stayed above 15 until the final five minutes.
The lead eventually extended to a game-high 22 on a John Comfort free throw but TCNJ closed on a 10-2 run against the far end of the Princeton bench.
Around the Ivy League: Harvard (13-2 / 1-0) led Dartmouth (3-12 / 0-1) by one at halftime and trailed midway through the back frame, but the Crimson controlled the final 10 minutes on their way to a 63-47 victory. Cornell (5-9) defeated Division III Albright, 78-60.
princetonbasketball.com was founded on April 28th, 1998 in an attempt to provide fans of the Princeton Tigers and Ivy League basketball with the best on-line source for up-to-date news and information. We have since expanded to launch a companion site, Georgetown Basketball News.
As these sites have continued to grow we have increased our coverage to include additional teams with Princeton connections - the Richmond Spiders, Denver Pioneers, Oregon State Beavers, Fairfield Stags and Mercer County Community College Vikings - plus former Tigers playing professional baseball and basketball all over the world. This site is not directly affiliated with the Friends of Princeton Basketball, Princeton University or the Princeton athletic department.
